About 8 Worlds

8 Worlds - about the game

8 Worlds is a single player roguelike deckbuilder that blends strategy and casual elements on PC. Players take on the role of the last lamplighter tasked with relighting dying stars known as sols across the universe. The core loop revolves around placing planets in orbit around these stars and spinning them to generate the energy needed to revive each one.

Gameplay

Each run consists of fifteen sols that grow progressively more demanding. At the start of a sol the player draws a hand of planets from a deck and assigns them to orbital slots. Placement order matters because many planets interact with their neighbors. Some copy effects from the previous slot, others boost the next one, and certain planets trigger on empty positions. The orbit begins with eight slots and expands over the course of a run, allowing larger and more complex arrangements.

Once planets are positioned the orbit spins and each planet activates in sequence, contributing Score and Mult to a running total. Three spins are available per sol to meet an energy quota. Success advances the player to the next sol while failure ends the run. Every planet follows its own scoring rule, ranging from flat values to effects that scale with deck size, discards, or duplicate counts. Planets can be leveled for greater power, and attachments such as Moons, Rings, and Beacons add further customization or alter behavior.

Beyond planets the game offers three additional upgrade types. Sigils occupy fixed orbital slots and grant bonuses to any planet placed there. Vials serve as single use tools for copying planets, leveling them, transforming them, or removing them in exchange for rewards. Constellations provide run long passive effects. These upgrades appear as rewards after clearing sols or can be purchased with dust from a shopkeeper following boss encounters.

Game Modes

The standard campaign requires defeating a series of boss sols before reaching endless mode. Boss sols feature a mysterious entity that has already claimed the star, forcing the player to reclaim it under altered rules that remove certain options while offering compensatory benefits. Endless mode continues past the normal level cap with steadily rising quotas until the run finally ends.

Multiple starting decks are available, each centered on a distinct group of planets and carrying a unique starting bonus such as an extra discard or additional dust on sol completion. Players may also enter a specific seed to replay or share a particular run, and certain named seeds modify core rules for the entire experience.

Progression and Upgrades

Progression emphasizes deck building and orbital synergy. Planets level up through repeated use or targeted upgrades, while attachments and the three upgrade categories let players refine strategies across multiple sols. The expanding orbit and increasing quotas encourage experimentation with larger combinations and more intricate interactions as runs lengthen.

Is It Worth Playing?

8 Worlds suits players who enjoy methodical deck construction and spatial planning within a roguelike framework. The emphasis on orbital placement, planet synergies, and quota management creates a distinct strategic puzzle each sol. Those who appreciate incremental build crafting and the tension of limited spins will find repeated runs rewarding, especially when exploring different starting decks or seeded challenges. The game remains in active development with its core systems fully playable on PC.
