The Multi-Purpose Repair Ship, aka MPRS âHellasâ, was designed by engineers of the Free Worlds of Eridan to replace the obsolete Raptor-type engineering frigates.Â
The Free Worlds were unable to afford to purchase new Armada frigates, and so their engineers sought alternative ways to solve the problem.Â
Named after the destroyed capital city, the MPRS âHellasâ is an adaptation of the New Empireâs experience with the âBark-2â. The original blueprints for the modified hull used during the First War for the Bartle Sector were discovered on one of the abandoned Direktorium bases during a scientific expedition. Grasping the opportunity, the engineers of the Worlds of Eridan set to work.
The planetary bomber was heavily modified to meet military requirements. The first tests in 4624 proved the success of the scientists, and soon the MPRS âHellasâ began entering service in small batches.Â
In 4625, the UMC analysts noticed the potential of the ship. Initially, the centerâs leadership wanted to order a large batch of ships for internal use, but it became clear that the remaining shipyards of the Free Worlds of Eridan had no capacity to fulfill the order and the contract was renegotiated. Currently, the UMC has the exclusive right to produce MPRS âHellasâ ships, and every mercenary of the center has the opportunity to order one.
