About Zifir

Zifir - about the game

Zifir is a single-player strategy indie RPG built around card-driven dungeon exploration on PC. Players enter a series of floors filled with face-down cards, where each reveal shapes both the path forward and the immediate threats or opportunities ahead.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on turning over cards one by one in a grid-like dungeon layout. Revealed cards may hold weapons, supplies, or enemies that must be dealt with on the spot. Exploration and combat occur in the same sequence of turns, so every new card adds to the pressure of what must be handled next.

Adjacent cards can be linked into chains to gather supplies efficiently in one action. Compatible pieces of equipment merge into upgraded versions with greater power, though all items have limited durability that forces careful planning for deeper floors. The next level often requires more than the current set of tools can provide, pushing players to decide when to expend resources or save them.

Survival depends on tracking multiple meters at once: health, hunger, stress, mana, and torchlight. Abilities must be timed precisely, supplies kept in reserve for emergencies, and gold spent wisely when a shop appears. A single strong purchase can extend a run, while a poor decision leaves the player vulnerable to the next encounter.

Game Modes

The only confirmed mode is the opening chapter, which is available to play for free. This chapter covers all 30 floors of the Cellar. Players take on the role of the Warden, equipped with the Shield Wall ability, and must overcome the bosses that guard the descent. The first two floors function as a hands-on tutorial that teaches the rules through direct actions rather than separate instructions.

Progression and Choices

Each descent carries equipment from one floor to the next, allowing incremental improvement across runs. Relics and rewards collected along the way alter future options, while shop purchases provide targeted upgrades. Routes branch ahead, and players must weigh whether the remaining cards justify the risk of continuing or if it is better to end the attempt and try again with new knowledge.

Boss encounters test the accumulated gear and resource management skills. Preparation matters more than raw power, as the limited durability of merged equipment means every floor demands fresh decisions about what to keep and what to replace.

Is It Worth Playing?

The free opening chapter provides a complete 30-floor experience with the Warden class and Shield Wall ability, giving a direct test of the card-reveal mechanics and resource systems without any purchase required. This structure suits players who enjoy deliberate, single-player strategy games where each turn carries weight and long-term planning determines success. Those drawn to indie titles that combine roguelike risk with RPG progression will find the core loop rewarding through repeated attempts that build on prior knowledge. The absence of additional paid modes or expansions keeps the focus on mastering the existing descent systems.
