About UnEpic

UnEpic - about the game

UnEpic is a 2D action RPG platformer that blends exploration, combat, and character progression in a castle setting filled with enemies and secrets. The story follows Daniel, an ordinary gamer pulled into what he thinks is a hallucination during an RPG session. He soon finds himself possessed by a shadow that wants him dead while he works to defeat the castle master Harnakon and free trapped pure spirits. This setup drives a nonlinear adventure where platforming meets deep RPG systems across hundreds of rooms.

Gameplay

Players navigate a large castle environment using 2D platforming mechanics that include jumping, climbing, and interacting with the surroundings. Combat mixes melee and ranged attacks with a wide selection of weapons and spells. Progression comes through an RPG character sheet where experience points allow skill upgrades, equipment changes, and stat improvements. Quests appear throughout the castle, often tied to exploration or interactions with merchants who treat the player as a possessed monster. Limited crafting lets players create potions at specific spots, while rings, scrolls, and artifacts provide additional power options. Pets can accompany the player, and the interactive map can be marked or altered during play. Hidden treasures and challenges reward UnEpic Points that unlock advanced gear such as laser weapons or rocket launchers. The game emphasizes clever dialogue with pop-culture references that appear in conversations and events.

Game Modes

The core experience centers on a single-player campaign that encourages thorough exploration of the castle's rooms and secrets. Multiple difficulty settings adjust enemy damage and other parameters, while several endings depend on choices and performance. An in-game leaderboard tracks statistics for players who want to compare results worldwide. Achievements recognize specific accomplishments like boss defeats or collection goals. Although the main focus remains solo play, limited co-operative options exist for those seeking shared sessions on the same screen or online.

Story and Progression

Daniel begins as a novice RPG player thrust into the castle's dangers. The shadow inside him constantly pushes toward self-destruction, creating tension during fights and exploration. As progress continues, the player uncovers that appearances can deceive, leading to twists that reframe the adventure. Seven bosses guard key areas, each requiring different tactics built from collected weapons, spells, and skills. Over 2000 lines of dialogue add personality to encounters and quests. The full character sheet tracks upgrades across multiple categories, supporting varied builds that favor magic, physical combat, or hybrid approaches.

Key Features

Seventy spells span different magic schools, from basic attacks to advanced effects unlocked through skill investment. One hundred weapons range from standard swords to exotic firearms earned via points or exploration. The castle layout supports nonlinear movement, allowing backtracking with new abilities to reach previously inaccessible areas. Statistics tracking covers everything from kills to completion time, feeding into the global leaderboard. Multiple endings reward different playstyles and thoroughness.

Is It Worth Playing?

UnEpic suits players who enjoy 2D platformers combined with RPG depth and exploration. The solid combat loop, skill customization, and castle secrets provide hours of engagement for fans of Metroidvania-style games. Difficulty options and multiple endings add replay value without requiring external content. Reception highlights the gameplay feel and humorous writing as strengths, though some note a slower start. The game remains available on PC with its original feature set intact, making it a straightforward choice for those seeking a self-contained adventure rather than ongoing updates or seasonal content. If the mix of platforming precision and character building appeals, it delivers a focused experience worth trying.
