About Terminal Dice

Terminal Dice - about the game

Terminal Dice is a turn-based roguelike strategy game developed for PC that centers on dice as the core of every build and decision. Players roll dice, adjust results with limited resources, arrange them in a specific order, and compile scores to overcome encounters across a structured campaign. The game emphasizes permanent modifications to dice faces rather than acquiring new ones, creating a system where strategy builds around probability manipulation and positioning.

Gameplay

Each turn begins with a fresh roll of the player's dice. A limited pool of OPS allows targeted changes such as flipping or shifting individual dice to desired values. Larger dice offer higher scoring potential but prove more difficult to control precisely, forcing players to prioritize which dice receive attention while accepting imperfections elsewhere in the roll.

Dice move into an ordered compile buffer before scoring occurs. Combinations formed in this buffer receive multipliers, while remaining dice contribute their raw values. Position influences special faces including Copy, Boost, Edge, and Retrigger, which activate differently based on placement. A live score forecast helps players evaluate arrangements before committing.

Between encounters, the FaceForge system permits permanent alterations to individual die faces. Options include replacing low values, adding increments like +2, duplicating useful faces, or introducing effects such as Wild, Gold, Copy, and Boost. This process gradually reshapes the probability distribution of existing dice instead of relying on replacements.

Five starting dice classes provide distinct starting strengths and limitations. Relics further support varied strategies around dice types and buffer arrangements. The terminal-inspired visual style accompanies these mechanics in a single-player experience that runs fully offline.

Game Modes

The main campaign divides into three sectors, each concluding with a boss encounter. Bosses introduce rule alterations such as reversing the buffer order, penalizing duplicate values, concealing portions of the roll, or disrupting relic effects. These modifications appear before scoring, allowing adjustments to the planned approach.

Completing the campaign grants access to Endless Mode. In this mode, boss protocols stack progressively, increasing complexity with each sector. Seeded Daily Challenge provides a fixed starting setup and encounter sequence shared across all players for consistent comparison.

A deterministic seed-and-hash replay system supports verification of runs. The game localizes into ten languages while maintaining focus on these core single-player modes without additional multiplayer elements.

Build Customization and Progression

Progression centers on refining a personal collection of dice through repeated FaceForge modifications. Players experiment with combinations of special faces to create synergistic effects that scale across encounters. Relics obtained after successful runs enhance specific dice behaviors or buffer strategies, encouraging diverse approaches rather than a single optimal path.

The ordered buffer adds a layer of tactical depth where the same set of dice can produce widely varying scores depending on arrangement. This system rewards careful planning around special face interactions while accommodating the inherent randomness of rolls through targeted OPS expenditure.

Is It Worth Playing?

Terminal Dice suits players who enjoy strategic roguelikes built around resource management and incremental build refinement. The emphasis on dice modification and positional scoring creates a focused loop of rolling, arranging, and adapting to changing rules. With a planned release on October 1, 2026, the game offers a complete single-player campaign plus replayable modes like Endless and Daily Challenge for those seeking repeated runs with escalating challenges.

Its offline nature and deterministic systems appeal to individuals who prefer deliberate, thoughtful gameplay over fast-paced action. Fans of dice-based strategy with elements of probability control and rule-breaking bosses will find the mechanics align closely with that preference. The absence of online requirements further supports uninterrupted sessions on PC.
