About Sort of Magic

Sort of Magic - about the game

Sort of Magic is a casual organization game for PC in which players take control of a tiny cat tasked with tidying a magic school after one misplaced spell scatters thousands of items. The core loop centers on locating misplaced objects and returning them to their proper places across handcrafted environments, turning a chaotic aftermath into an orderly space through methodical sorting and discovery.

Gameplay

Every object in the school belongs in a specific location, and the experience revolves around identifying those homes while handling a wide variety of magical items. Players sort book series into matching sets, arrange colorful potions by type, pair magical ingredients correctly, return brooms to designated racks, and locate hidden wands scattered throughout the space. More than 4,500 handcrafted objects populate the environments, each contributing to the sense of gradual restoration as rooms regain their intended appearance.

Four spells become available to support the sorting process and adapt to different preferences. Insight highlights matching items still on the ground. Assemble summons matching items toward the player. Homing Sense shows the correct placement for any selected object. Auto Shelving instantly places everything currently carried into the right spots. These abilities can be chosen and switched based on the immediate challenge, streamlining larger tasks without removing the satisfaction of hands-on organization.

Exploration covers six distinct rooms, each introducing new categories of objects and fresh layout challenges. Progress through one area gradually influences the overall state of the school, with cleaned sections reflecting the cumulative effort in a visible way.

Game Modes

The game supports solo play for those who prefer a personal pace or online co-op sessions with up to three additional players, allowing groups of one to four to work together on the same cleanup tasks. Co-op emphasizes shared sorting responsibilities across the rooms, with each participant able to contribute to object placement and spell use simultaneously.

No competitive elements or separate competitive modes exist. The focus remains on collaborative or independent organization in the shared school setting, with all participants progressing through the same six rooms regardless of group size.

Restoring the School

Cleaning directly affects the visual state of each room, with scattered items disappearing from floors and surfaces as they find their homes. The process unfolds room by room, revealing the original design and atmosphere of the magic school through steady, incremental changes. New object types appear in later rooms, requiring players to adapt their sorting strategies while building on the spells unlocked earlier.

The absence of timers or failure conditions keeps attention on the steady rhythm of discovery and placement. Players can revisit areas or adjust their approach at any time, focusing on thoroughness rather than speed.

Is It Worth Playing?

Sort of Magic suits players who enjoy relaxed organization mechanics and cozy exploration without pressure or conflict. The combination of precise sorting tasks, supportive spells, and visible environmental changes creates a satisfying loop for those drawn to puzzle-style cleanup experiences. Solo sessions offer quiet focus, while co-op adds light coordination for groups seeking a shared activity.

The game delivers its core promise of turning a large mess into an ordered space across six rooms filled with thousands of unique objects. Its straightforward systems and lack of punitive elements make it accessible for casual sessions, particularly for anyone interested in methodical arrangement and gradual restoration in a light fantasy setting.
