Players switch between an Engineer and a Policeman on a space station in this VR technology showcase. The Engineer handles manual repairs on various devices, while the Policeman uses weapons to fend off infected Engineers and provide protection. Built on Unreal Engine 4 as a single-player action simulation demo, it previews mechanics for an upcoming adventure game and pulls models, textures, and sounds from Space Engineers.
Teleport and free movement options drive VR navigation, with Oculus Rift as the primary headset and Vive compatibility via teleport. Free movement remains in development and may glitch on Vive. VR enthusiasts who enjoy alternating character roles and hands-on repair defense loops will find this playable PC demo a solid tech preview.
This game is a playable technology showcase that introduces game mechanics, in this VR project. This game (technology showcase) will serve as the basis of the VR game system for separate new game.
Game will be adventure game with a story, only single player.
A lot of game stuff like models, textures, sounds are from original game Space Engineers.
Player will playing with 2 characters alternately, one as Engineer and second as Policeman on space station.
The Engineer will mainly manually repair various devices. The Policeman will assist the Engineer and have weapons available to protect them from infected Engineers.
This technology showcase is created on Unreal Engine 4.
Compatibility of VR head sets: I'm doing it on Oculus Rift but it's also compatible with Vive (teleport).
Movement: In technology showcase is teleport and free movement. Free movement is still WIP. On Vive can be problem with free movement.
