MXGP 24: The Official Game is a motocross racing title that brings the 2024 FIM Motocross World Championship to the PlayStation 5. Players take control of licensed bikes and riders across official tracks, focusing on handling, technique, and progression through structured single-player and limited online options.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on realistic bike physics that reward precise throttle control, leaning, and timing on jumps and corners. Controls remain approachable for new players through visual guides on starts, cornering lines, and jump techniques such as scrubbing. Experienced riders can push the advanced physics model for tighter lines and better traction management on varied surfaces. The 4 km² training area supports free riding across six circuits with multiple terrain types, allowing practice on acceleration, braking, and bike setup without the pressure of competition. Over 50 official riders from the MXGP and MX2 classes are available, including Jorge Prado, Jeffrey Herlings, Maxime Renaux, and Andrea Adamo, along with their associated teams such as Red Bull KTM, Monster Energy Yamaha, and Honda HRC.
Game Modes
Several distinct modes structure the experience. Quick Race lets players select a class, track, weather, and AI difficulty for immediate sessions. Time Attack focuses on beating personal bests against the clock on chosen circuits. Season mode strings together races following championship rulesets. Career mode provides the deepest progression, beginning with amateur events and aiming for recruitment into an MX2 team before advancing to MXGP through consistent results. Team management includes scheduling, development decisions, and handling rivalries. Daily Challenge serves as the primary online option, placing players in ten-person lobbies with rotating rules to set competitive times. Free Ride offers unstructured exploration of the training area for skill building.
Official Content and Progression
All twenty tracks from the 2024 calendar appear in the game, delivering the full championship layout with authentic details. Career progression emphasizes long-term goals, starting from amateur status and requiring strong performances to secure team spots in higher classes. Players manage bike development and rival interactions while advancing through the ranks. The training area integrates directly with career preparation, letting riders test setups on diverse surfaces before official events.
Is It Worth Playing?
MXGP 24 suits players who value the official MXGP license and a structured career path that mirrors real championship progression. The combination of accessible controls and detailed physics supports both beginners and those seeking technical depth in motocross handling. Limited online features center on daily time-based challenges rather than open lobbies, which narrows the competitive scope. Reception has highlighted strengths in the licensed roster and career structure alongside criticisms of handling feel and AI behavior. Fans of the sport seeking an authentic single-player championship experience will find the most value here, while those prioritizing robust multiplayer or refined physics may encounter limitations in the current package.
