About MAGNET

MAGNET - about the game

MAGNET is an indie casual game for PC centered on magnetic scrap collection in a scrapyard environment. Players use the mouse to drag a magnet across debris-filled areas, pulling in metal objects that match the magnet's power level while managing the growing weight of collected cargo.

Gameplay

The core loop involves sweeping the magnet across the yard to attract bolts, wrenches, keyboards, monitors, and other light scrap that enters its field. Cargo accumulates quickly, increasing the magnet's mass and reducing its speed. Before any earnings are secured, the player must return the full load to the central depot for processing. There is no instant sell option, as all transactions occur at that fixed location in the middle of the map.

Weight management forms a key tension. At full capacity the magnet halts movement entirely. Continuing to hold the mouse button allows an overdrive state that pushes capacity higher but causes excess scrap to spill out the back, resulting in lost value. Each run becomes a calculated risk on how much can be transported safely in one trip.

Seven permanent upgrades shape long-term progression. These cover Power, Range, Speed, Cargo, Size, Salvage, and Value. Power serves as a gateway stat that unlocks new sections of the map once certain thresholds are met, such as opening the Factory at 30 kg or the Rail Yard at 150 kg. The other stats improve collection efficiency, carrying capacity, and the quality of recovered items over repeated sessions.

Game Modes

Play centers on repeated runs through three distinct yards, each featuring its own variety of scrap and payout structure. The Junkyard supplies basic bolts as rewards. The Factory introduces denser items like drills and safes. The Rail Yard contains heavier pieces including tank cars and locomotives. Moving deeper into these areas increases scrap density while also raising the challenge of returning to the depot from greater distances.

Collection chains build momentum when items are gathered without interruption. Sustained chains raise the tempo and can trigger a Frenzy state that triples pull strength. Breaking the chain causes it to decay over time. Explosive barrels appear as hazards that destroy cargo on contact but do not remove player control. Session bonuses accumulate across runs, with players selecting from three options at a time out of a total of fourteen available bonuses. Completing a depot return allows these bonuses to be exchanged for a fully restocked yard while preserving money and upgrades.

Progression and Upgrades

Advancement relies on repeated depot returns that convert scrap into currency for permanent improvements. The upgrade system encourages experimentation with different build paths, as each stat directly influences how far and how efficiently a player can operate. Higher Power values grant access to richer yards, while improvements to Cargo and Speed help handle the increased loads from those areas. Salvage and Value upgrades enhance the quality and payout of collected items without altering the fundamental drag-and-haul mechanics.

The ground itself grows heavier farther from the depot, adding another layer of resistance to longer trips. This design keeps focus on efficient routing and load balancing rather than external timers or failure conditions.

Is It Worth Playing?

MAGNET suits players who enjoy deliberate, one-handed casual gameplay with elements of risk and incremental improvement. The absence of a fail state, timer, or punishment allows relaxed sessions that still reward careful planning around weight limits and chain building. Those who appreciate steady progression through permanent upgrades and varied scrap types across multiple yards will find consistent engagement in the core loop. The game emphasizes thoughtful magnet control and session-to-session decisions over fast reflexes or complex systems.
