Every time he completed a commission, a piece of dusty memory emerged; every time he drew closer to a truth, a shadow quietly retreated in the dark.
Someone had been helping him all along. When he needed clues the most, guidance always arrived unexpectedly; when he fell into danger, someone blocked the darkest blade for him. But he couldn’t catch up to that figure, couldn’t see that face clearly, and wasn’t even sure — if that person was still alive.
