Idle Legions is a free to play strategy RPG for PC that blends idle progression with deliberate choices in hero selection and resource management. Players assemble small teams of heroes that advance through waves of enemies automatically, while offline progress continues on the server side. The focus stays on long term planning rather than constant input during combat.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on forming a team of up to four heroes chosen from a pool of five. Each hero receives gear and levels chosen by the player, after which the formation handles successive waves without further intervention. Decisions revolve around which heroes to prioritize for upgrades, which equipment to equip, and which pets to deploy at key moments. Offline advancement is calculated server side, so progress accumulates even when the client is closed.
Gear comes in seven rarities ranging from common to mythic. Affixes on items can be rerolled, and elemental runes along with forge stones provide additional customization. Pets, of which there are forty, each grant distinct bonuses and can be raised through twenty levels. The system rewards careful allocation of resources across multiple heroes rather than spreading effort thinly.
Game Modes
Five acts each conclude with a distinct boss encounter. The Ancient Ent and the Magma Lord feature break bars that stun the boss and double incoming damage when destroyed. Several bosses gain increased damage output once reduced to half health, while the Swamp Hydra requires sustained burning to prevent regeneration and the Archnecromancer begins protected by a bone shield. The Magma Lord alternates between heat and cold phases. Each act boss requires a key specific to that act; the stage immediately before the boss supplies the first key, with additional keys dropping during play. Keys are consumed only on victory and cannot be purchased with real money, though players may trade them for gold through the auction house.
Five difficulty settings scale the same five acts with progressively tougher enemies: Normal, Hard, Nightmare, Hell, and Madness. The Abyss functions as a self generating dungeon where the level 100 final boss has a chance to drop mythic gear. Mythic items carry five affixes and can also be crafted in the Forge of the Well using Mythic Cores obtained inside the Abyss. Outside the Abyss, fusing ten unique items in the forge offers a low probability path to a mythic result.
Asynchronous PvP pits a player's saved formation against those of other players through leagues and seasons, with outcomes resolved server side and presented as replays. A world boss pits the entire server population against a shared health pool, with separate rankings for individual players and guilds. City and guild features include a customizable avatar, an isometric plaza area, and access to the auction house for trading.
Progression and Systems
Advancement spans hero leveling, gear optimization, pet development, and key collection for repeated boss attempts. The auction house facilitates player driven economy around keys and other resources. Guild membership adds social layers through shared world boss contributions and rankings. The overall structure supports both short sessions focused on formation tweaks and longer periods of passive accumulation.
Is It Worth Playing?
Idle Legions suits players who enjoy idle strategy games that still require meaningful upfront decisions about team composition and resource investment. The free to play model includes trading mechanics that allow acquisition of keys without direct purchases. Those who prefer active combat or narrative driven experiences may find the automated wave clearing less engaging, while fans of incremental progression and occasional tactical adjustments will find consistent forward momentum through offline gains and periodic optimization. The combination of distinct boss mechanics across difficulties and the self building Abyss provides variety within the idle framework.
