About Grist

Grist - about the game

ASCII-driven Sci-Fi RPG GRIST is by turns a table-top inspired roguelike, futuristic apartment simulator, and deck-building card battler. Explore the tiered lands of the mysterious videogame Atropos: where items found in the game have a strange way of showing up in real life.

GRIST draws on a heritage of table-top RPGs, gamebooks, and classic CRPGs from the 1980s, resynthesizing them into a glowing terminal-wave aesthetic with driving basslines, exploding ASCII particles, and a healthy dose of existential horror.

  • Hexcrawl your way down into the depths of the shell world finding lost civilisations and forgotten technologies

  • Take advantage of positioning in combat to avoid attacks, gain buffs, and out-manouever your enemy

  • Equip your team with powerful order cards salvaged from the battlefield or obtained on the black market

  • Plot map routes to maximize levelling, locate advanced weaponry, or undertake sidequests that unlock new items and classes.

  • Salvage memory fragments to improve your team's survivability and unlock build-defining abilities.

But don't forget to take care of yourself: the player requires food, rest, and psychological stimulation to function at peak capacity. Spend some time between missions exploring the world outside of Atropos, where you will find these things and more...
