About Citrus & Stone

Citrus & Stone - about the game

Citrus & Stone is a cozy pixel-art base builder that blends strategy and adventure elements on PC. Players take control of a grapefruit named Tony Grapefruit and a cherry named Sherry as they wash ashore on a dynamic island with only a wrecked boat and a broken campfire. The core loop revolves around daytime resource gathering and construction paired with nighttime defense against waves of mushrooms emerging from Rotten Bushes.

Gameplay

Each day focuses on expanding the camp through chopping trees, breaking rocks, cooking recipes, fishing, and smelting iron. Tools and structures improve over time, starting from a basic axe and progressing to walls, gates, and archer towers. The central campfire can be upgraded to unlock additional recipes, while survivors scattered across the island can be hired with payment and assigned specific jobs to automate tasks. Brewing beer from grown wheat provides extra motivation for these workers at the Bar Tab.

At six o'clock every evening the defensive phase begins. Mushrooms attempt to extinguish the campfire, and failure ends the run. Strategic preparation during daylight hours becomes essential for handling multiple boss encounters that arrive with the fungal waves. The island supports additional activities such as farming wheat and various fruits including bananas and dragon fruit, catching fish from the beach or a rowboat, and cooking a range of dishes from Guava Chiffon Cake to Sea Serpent Sashimi Boat.

Five hidden shrines in the forest each require specific offerings. Completing all of them prepares the wrecked boat for departure. A rowboat can also be constructed to explore surrounding waters, and the camp gradually incorporates pets and traders as it develops.

Game Modes

The game supports solo play for one person managing the entire island. Two-player options include online co-op where a second player joins as Sherry, and local couch co-op in split-screen format with separate inventories for each character. Player two can pick up a controller and join at any moment without restarting. One player might focus on fishing while the other reinforces defenses or assigns jobs to survivors.

Keyboard and mouse or full controller support accommodates different preferences. The day and night cycle structures every session around building and hiring during daylight followed by coordinated defense at night.

Progression and Island Life

Advancement comes through tool upgrades, structure construction, and survivor management. Hired workers level up and receive gear improvements, allowing the camp to operate more independently over time. Brewing and serving beer adds a layer of worker motivation that ties into resource production chains. Fishing, farming, cooking, and trading expand the economy while the boat repair quest provides a long-term objective through shrine offerings.

The pixel-art style emphasizes a relaxed yet tense rhythm between creative building and survival pressure. Soundtrack elements built around acoustic guitar complement the island setting without overpowering the core activities.

Is It Worth Playing?

Citrus & Stone suits players who enjoy cozy base-building combined with light survival defense and flexible co-op. The single-player experience delivers a complete loop of gathering, constructing, and defending, while the split-screen and online options make it accessible for pairs who want to divide tasks naturally. Controller support and the option for a second player to join mid-session lower barriers for casual sessions.

Those drawn to pixel-art strategy games with clear day-night progression and job-assignment systems will find the described mechanics align closely with that preference. The pre-release status means final balance and additional content remain to be confirmed, but the outlined features emphasize strategic daytime preparation and cooperative nighttime holds without requiring large groups.
