About Cinderdelve

Cinderdelve - about the game

Cinderdelve is a pixel-art strategy indie casual adventure game for PC in which players direct a growing crew of dwarves through the excavation of an eleven-level mountain. The core premise centers on breaking rock to reach the Tyrant at the bottom while expanding the team and improving its capabilities over repeated descents.

Gameplay

The central loop involves hiring dwarves from nine distinct classes, each with unique digging behaviors. Magmaforged melt paths with lava, Stormcallers channel lightning, Frostwrights chill and shatter blocks in chains, Powderbeards explode obstacles, Ironhands create craters, Stonecallers extend crushing roots, Runesmiths place speed-boosting runes, Voidcutters slash thin arcs, and Hollowsingers produce resonant effects. Every class offers six talents plus an Ascension option that players unlock and combine across the crew.

Gold collected from blocks funds permanent upgrades to mining speed, power, area, ability strength, critical chance, and yield. These percentage-based improvements continue indefinitely without caps or crew size limits. Each of the eleven fixed 1400 by 1400 block levels features progressively harder rock and a buried goal structure in a large cave mural. Players must clear 85 percent of a level before descending, and levels one through nine contain class-specific lost artifacts that grant an Ascended dwarf at the start of all subsequent levels.

Level ten features the God Altar, allowing one dwarf to become the Mountain God and inherit every Ascension earned so far. Level eleven ends with the Cinder Throne and the waiting Tyrant. Every new level begins with a fresh crew and no purchased upgrades, yet Renown of the Deep, artifacts, and the Mountain God carry forward to accelerate progress. After defeating the Tyrant, the Endless Deep unlocks as an ongoing sequence of depths that increase in difficulty by 25 percent each time, supported by the full roster of Ascended dwarves and the Mountain God.

Game Modes

Cinderdelve operates as a single-player experience with a structured campaign of eleven hand-tuned levels followed by the Endless Deep. Within each level players issue Dig, Avoid, and Fight orders to direct the crew when manual control is desired, or allow autonomous operation when preferred. The progression system emphasizes repeated runs that build cumulative advantages through artifacts and the Mountain God rather than separate multiplayer or competitive modes.

The primary distinction lies between the finite eleven-level campaign that culminates in the confrontation with the Tyrant and the subsequent Endless Deep, which provides unlimited additional depths with the complete upgraded crew. No other named modes appear in the game design.

Progression and Upgrades

Advancement relies on the interplay between class variety and endless upgrade tracks. Selecting the right mix of the nine classes shapes how efficiently the mountain breaks apart, while the upgrade system rewards consistent gold collection with compounding benefits to speed, power, and ability range. Artifacts from earlier levels ensure later starts feel stronger, creating a sense of steady momentum across multiple descents.

The Mountain God mechanic adds a layer of long-term planning by consolidating all prior Ascensions into one powerful unit. This carries into the Endless Deep, where the full crew faces increasingly tough rock without resetting the accumulated power.

Is It Worth Playing?

Cinderdelve suits players who enjoy incremental strategy and management of large automated crews in a pixel-art digging setting. The combination of nine classes with distinct mechanics, 54 talents, nine Ascensions, and unlimited upgrade tracks provides substantial depth for those who like optimizing crew composition and watching collective progress unfold. The fixed levels offer clear goals and hand-tuned challenges, while the Endless Deep extends play for those seeking ongoing difficulty scaling.

With 14 Steam achievements tied to the core systems, the game rewards experimentation with class mixes and upgrade priorities. It appeals most to fans of casual strategy and adventure titles that emphasize steady growth over twitch reflexes or narrative focus. Availability on PC makes it accessible for sessions of varying length, from short level clears to extended crew management. The design prioritizes mechanical variety and cumulative power rather than external content updates or seasonal events.
