The 44th Separate Mechanized Brigade was formed in 2023 during the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war. Its creation was part of the deployment of new combat units of the Ukrainian army, designed to strengthen the state's defense and carry out combat missions in the most difficult sectors of the front.
Since its formation in 2023, it has been participating in combat operations in eastern Ukraine, including the defense of the Kharkiv region — the Kupyansk and Lyman directions. Currently, the brigade is holding the defense line in the Kostiantynivka direction.
The brigade's motto — "Our destiny is only freedom!" — reflects the legacy of the struggle for freedom that runs through the history of the Ukrainian military from Cossack times to the present day.
