Grand Theft Auto VI: System Requirements, Release Date, Price, and Key Details

Grand Theft Auto VI ranks among the most eagerly awaited titles in gaming. Rockstar Games has spent years generating buzz for the latest entry in the storied franchise, with enthusiasts counting down to its debut. This piece gathers all the confirmed and estimated information on GTA 6, covering its launch timing, cost, and projected PC needs.

When Will GTA 6 Launch?

Rockstar Games has officially stated that Grand Theft Auto VI will arrive on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Initial trailers pointed to 2025, but Take-Two Interactive, which owns Rockstar, later adjusted the timeline to fall 2026 in a quarterly report from May 2025. Following prior changes, this date appears to be final.

For the PC version, past patterns indicate Rockstar takes its time with computer releases. Grand Theft Auto V became available on PC in April 2015, seventeen months after its console launch in September 2013. Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a similar path, reaching PC in November 2019, over a year after its October 2018 console debut. For GTA 6, the PC edition is likely to emerge in the latter half of 2027 or early 2028.

The company's approach has remained consistent for two decades. It prioritizes consoles to capture substantial initial revenue from PS5 and Xbox owners. PC then serves as a subsequent sales window, drawing in players seeking enhanced versions with modifications. While this delays access for PC users, no indications suggest a different strategy this time.

What Will GTA 6 Cost?

The standard edition of GTA 6 on consoles in Poland is expected to retail for 349 PLN. In other currencies, that equates to 69.99 USD, 79.99 EUR, or 69.99 GBP. This pricing aligns with current norms for major new-generation titles, as seen with releases like Spider-Man 2, Final Fantasy XVI, and Tears of the Kingdom. Earlier Bloomberg reports mentioned Take-Two considering up to 100 USD, though market response might not support that.

Rockstar is anticipated to offer higher-tier options. Expect Premium or Ultimate Editions priced at 449-499 PLN, 90-100 USD, 100-110 EUR, or 80-90 GBP. These will include extras such as exclusive vehicles for GTA Online, weapons, in-game properties, and cosmetic items. In contrast, GTA V launched in 2013 without such variants, yet GTA Online has since generated over 8.5 billion dollars in revenue, showing Rockstar's expertise in brand monetization.

When the PC version eventually launches, it will probably maintain the same pricing. No discounts are foreseen for the wait, as demand will remain strong regardless of delays. GTA V on PC sold more than 50 million copies despite prior console availability.

GTA 6 PC System Requirements

Rockstar has not yet disclosed official system requirements, as the PC version lacks a confirmed release date. The specifications below are estimates derived from trailer analyses (from December 2023 and May 2025), previous games on the RAGE engine, and industry forum leaks.

Estimated minimum requirements: Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 with 12 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card, 16 GB of RAM, and about 150 GB of SSD storage. The operating system should be Windows 10 64-bit or later, with DirectX 12. These align with RAGE engine titles, where Red Dead Redemption 2 required a GTX 1060 or RX 480 at minimum for 1080p on low settings.

Recommended requirements: Intel Core i9-10900K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 with 10 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card, 32 GB of RAM, and a fast NVMe Gen4 SSD with at least 150 GB of space. This setup reflects mid-to-high configurations from 2022, which may become standard for gamers by 2027 or 2028.

These are projections. Rockstar could vary from them. GTA V on PC exemplified strong optimization even on 2015 hardware, while Red Dead Redemption 2 demanded powerful systems and had optimization issues at its PC launch, fixed by patches after six months. GTA 6, using RAGE engine version 9, might follow either path.

Which PCs Can Run GTA 6?

Let's examine specific setups. A graphics card like the RTX 4060 Ti or RX 7700 XT with 16 GB of VRAM should handle GTA 6 at 1080p on medium-to-high settings. Play will be possible, though ultra settings may not be achievable. This remains a reliable configuration for 2026 or 2027.

For 1440p, options include the RTX 4070 Super or RTX 4070 Ti, or the AMD RX 7800 XT. Such systems should deliver smooth performance at high settings, with DLSS 4 and Frame Generation aiding in reaching ultra quality at over 60 fps. This offers the best balance of performance and cost for GTA 6 on PC in 2027 or 2028.

Running 4K with ray tracing will require top-tier hardware, such as the RTX 4090 or RTX 5090 (launching in January 2025 at 1999 USD, 2099 EUR, 1939 GBP, or around 8500 PLN). The RTX 5090 with 32 GB of GDDR7 memory can support native 4K with full ray tracing. These systems will cost several thousand zlotys, making them a luxury for a limited number of players at PC launch.

VRAM will be crucial. Trailers display exceptional texture detail in Vice City, indicating high demands. 8 GB of VRAM will serve as the baseline, 12 GB as a reasonable choice, and 16 GB as the ideal target for upgrades ahead of GTA 6. The RTX 4060 Ti comes in 8 GB and 16 GB variants, so opt for the latter if available.

What Do We Know About Gameplay?

GTA 6 takes place in Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida, with Vice City as the primary urban area. This marks a return to the setting from GTA: Vice City in 2002, but with a fresh presentation. The first trailer from December 2023, which garnered 107 million views in its first day and set a YouTube record, showcased a vibrant world featuring neon lights, beaches, estates, and hazardous streets.

For the first time in the main series, a female character is playable. Lucia Caminos, a Latina lead, drives the story, which draws from the Bonnie and Clyde legend. Her partner, Jason, is the male protagonist. The character-switching mechanic from GTA V is retained, but the bond between Lucia and Jason will play a more significant narrative role, as Rockstar has noted their emotional connection differs from that of the trio in GTA V.

The game world promises to be the most dynamic in the series. Rockstar highlights an advanced NPC system with daily routines, responses to player actions, and evolving events. Social media elements, parodying TikTok and Twitter/X, will function like radio in earlier games by commenting on the world and player antics. Vehicle traffic in the city is twice as dense as in GTA V.

GTA Online mode will return, though details remain undisclosed. Given that GTA Online has brought in over 8.5 billion dollars in revenue since 2013, multiplayer will be central to GTA 6. New activities, heists, business operations, and microtransactions via Shark Cards are expected. Rumors point to full character transfers from the previous GTA Online.

On Which Platforms Will GTA 6 Be Available?

GTA 6 will initially launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. The game is built specifically for the current generation, avoiding compromises for older hardware. No plans exist for PS4 or Xbox One versions, allowing Rockstar to leverage the full capabilities of the new consoles' SSDs (5.5 GB/s on PS5, 2.4 GB/s on Series X) and hardware ray tracing.

The PC version is slated for later, with the most plausible window being the second half of 2027 or early 2028. Rockstar has not officially confirmed a PC release for GTA 6, but it would be unprecedented for the series to skip computers. The PC market offers vast additional revenue (billions on Steam alone), along with mods, improved textures, and a large community that Rockstar is unlikely to overlook.

As for Nintendo Switch 2 (set for June 2025 release), no evidence supports compatibility. Although Switch 2 features superior specs with the NVIDIA T239 chip and DLSS, it probably won't meet GTA 6's demands. A cloud streaming version might emerge, but that is not expected before 2028 or 2029.

GTA 6 is poised to define its era in gaming. Whether players opt for consoles at launch or wait for PC with enhanced visuals and modifications, it represents a landmark release. Take-Two Interactive forecasts sales of 25-35 million copies in the first week, though actual figures could exceed that.
