The reveal season is officially open, and EA came out swinging. EA Sports FC 27 got its first proper trailer today, July 23, and the face front and center should surprise absolutely nobody. Kylian Mbappe is back on the cover.
He fronts the Ultimate Edition and the mobile version, his first EA cover since the FIFA 23 days. Fitting, really, given he just walked off with the Golden Boot at the 2026 World Cup. The trailer went live on the official EA Sports FC channel and, well, it looks the part: glossy, fast, all the swagger you expect from a launch teaser. Just do not go in expecting a deep gameplay breakdown, because that is not what this one was.
Not a ton, if we are being honest. Mbappe on the Ultimate Edition cover is locked. The mobile cover too. The Standard Edition cover star? Still a mystery, so expect a second name to drop soon. Beyond that, the trailer leans hard on visuals and light on specifics, which is pretty much the FC playbook every summer.
Here is where it gets spicy, and where you should keep the salt handy. Nothing below is official yet. Word going around points to a September 25 release date, with Ultimate Edition buyers and EA Play members getting up to eight days of early access ahead of it. The juiciest rumor is a brand new open-world mode reportedly called The Grounds, plus some fresh animation tech nicknamed Project Assist and another round of Career Mode tweaks.
Take all of that as rumor until EA says otherwise. Reveal trailers love to hide the actual meat for a later gameplay deep dive, and this one is no different.
So, cautiously optimistic or already rolling your eyes at another yearly release? Is Mbappe the right cover pick, or were you hoping for someone else? Drop it in the comments and let us know what you want to see when the real gameplay reveal lands.
