About Tree Wreckers

Tree Wreckers - about the game

Best with friends. Pay for what you crush.

Bud Wrecker has retired to Florida. He left your crew his tree service, his notebook, a busted truck and the $4,000 he still owes on it. The only way to keep the business going is to take down trees in tight yards without crushing the house, the fence, the sports car, or each other.

Every tree is a puzzle. There's rarely room to drop one whole. So your climber straps on spikes, flips a line round the trunk and goes up. They tie a rope round the next limb and cut it, while the ground crew takes the weight on a lowering device and lets it down easy between the roof and the pool. Top the tree, sling the limbs onto a speedline and send them riding down to the drop zone, and take the crown off piece by piece until there's a bare trunk you can fell where you want. Or skip all that, cut a notch, yell TIMBER and hope.

Every cut is real. The saw cuts the actual tree, wherever you put it, up in the crown or down at the stump. Cut a notch, cut the back, leave a hinge, and the tree goes where its weight and the wood you left send it. Cut it wrong and it sits back on your bar, twists off the stump or heads for the pool. Ropes, wedges and the truck's winch help. Usually. Prefer less fuss? Arcade difficulty keeps the falls and the bill, and drops the pinched saws and the wedges.

Every mistake has a name on it. Money is pooled. Damage isn't. Every fence panel, garden gnome, windshield and trip to the hospital goes on the invoice under the name of whoever caused it, and the invoice goes on the garage wall for good. Friendly fire is always on: chainsaws, falling limbs, runaway logs and the chipper all knock you flat, and nobody is ever out of the game.

Talk it over. Then shout. Proximity voice means the climber can't hear the ground crew unless someone shouts. Radios fix that, if you can bring yourself to buy them. Pings and callouts work without a microphone.

A town you work in. Sawyer Falls is one connected hillside town. Pick up contracts at the garage or over the truck radio, buy rope at the Outfitter, hitch the chipper and drive to the job yourself. Later you'll take a crane up the ridge road. Nothing teleports, and anyone can drive. Nobody should let Steve drive.

Bigger trees, bigger problems. Start with a dead maple in a backyard. Work up to oaks over pools and rooftops, pines leaning out over cliffside cabins, a night job in a foggy ravine, and six named trees that each beat Bud once. On the horizon the whole time: the Old One, a dying redwood taller than anything in town, and the one tree Bud never tried.

More than 40 pieces of gear, bought for cash. Climbing spikes, ladders, ropes, pulleys, lowering devices and a griphoist; chainsaws from a one-hand top-handle up to a 92cc monster; pole saws, wedges, the stump grinder, the bucket truck, a mobile crane, a crawler crane, a speedline, a stunt airbag and a tethered helium balloon. Every one is a new way to do the job, and a new way for it to go wrong.

After the credits. A daily contract that's the same job for everyone, replays of every named tree ranked by net pay, and Overgrown jobs with bigger crowns over more expensive things.

Features
  • 1–4 player online co-op with Steam invites and drop-in at the garage; solo play works too, and every job can be finished alone.

  • Climb and rig: spikes, ladders, ropes, lowering devices and a speedline, to take a tree down piece by piece over everything that matters.

  • A cutting simulator: the saw cuts real geometry, and every fall, hinge and pinch comes from the tree's weight and the wood left.

  • An itemized invoice after every job, with every line of damage under a player's name.

  • One connected town: drive your own trucks, tow your own machines, shop at physical stores, sell logs at the mill.

  • A story campaign across four acts and seven named trees, ending at the Old One.

  • More than 40 tools, vehicles and machines, from a hand saw to a crane.

  • Realistic and arcade difficulties.

  • Proximity voice with shouting, crew radios, and pings and callouts.

  • A daily contract, named-tree replays and Overgrown jobs after the story.

  • 27 Steam achievements, most of them for the work up the tree and on the ropes.
