About Train Simulator: East Coast Main Line London-Peterborough Route Add-On

Train Simulator: East Coast Main Line London-Peterborough Route Add-On - about the game

Train Simulator: East Coast Main Line London-Peterborough Route Add-On delivers a detailed rail simulation experience on PC. Players take control of trains along a 76-mile section of one of Britain's busiest rail corridors, running from London King's Cross to Peterborough. The add-on recreates the route with its mix of urban departure, suburban stretches, and open countryside, complete with accurate landmarks and infrastructure from the real line.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on operating locomotives and multiple units under realistic conditions. Drivers manage speed, signals, braking, and timetable adherence while navigating the four-track main line out of the capital. Early sections pass through dense London suburbs with frequent stops and restrictions, then open into faster running through Hertfordshire towns such as Potters Bar, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City, and Hitchin. The route ends at Peterborough, where freight facilities and sidings add operational variety.

Two locomotives receive full implementation. The High Speed Train features Class 43 power cars and a complete coach rake suited to long-distance services. The Class 365 electric multiple unit appears in First Capital Connect livery for outer-suburban commuter duties. A prototype Hitachi Class 801 also appears on the route. Controls replicate cab procedures, including power settings, door operations, and safety systems. Scenery includes recognizable structures such as Alexandra Palace, the Emirates Stadium, Digswell Viaduct, Gasworks Tunnel, Copenhagen Tunnels, and Bounds Green depot. Peterborough's freight yard and Post Office depot provide additional visual and operational detail.

Game Modes

Scenarios form the primary structured content. Twelve scenarios ship with the route, covering tutorials and full services. Examples include Peterborough Nene Sidings Departure Tutorial, King's Cross Empty Stock Tutorial, Peterborough Southbound Stopper, North to Hitchin, Welwyn Garden City runs in both directions, Back to Bounds Green, The Staff Train, In a Hurry, Morning commute to Stevenage, Southbound to Kings Cross, and The 801 at 08:01. These range from short instructional runs to longer passenger and empty-stock movements.

Quick Drive mode allows free selection of locomotives, starting points, and time of day for unstructured practice or exploration. Additional player-created scenarios appear through the in-game workshop system, expanding available services without extra cost.

Route Details and Operations

The line follows the historic East Coast Main Line alignment built in the mid-1800s and later electrified. The simulated section captures the transition from busy terminal operations at King's Cross through tunnels and viaducts into the flatter countryside north of London. Freight traffic shares the route with passenger trains, and the layout supports both high-speed dashes and stopping commuter patterns. Players encounter the full range of infrastructure, from multi-track approaches to the capital through to the larger yards at the northern end.

Is It Worth Playing?

Steam user reviews rate the add-on positively at 80 percent from 47 reviews. Players highlight the quality of the included scenarios and the satisfying mix of high-speed and stopping services. The route suits those who enjoy methodical train operation, timetable adherence, and British rail operations rather than arcade-style driving. It remains available as a standalone purchase for the Train Simulator platform and continues to receive community scenario support. Those interested in UK main-line driving on a compact yet varied stretch of the East Coast Main Line will find consistent value in the accurate modeling and scenario variety.
