About Tirona

Tirona - about the game

Tirona blends indie RPG and adventure elements into a single-player experience on PC that merges the open-ended freedom of a tabletop session with the structured systems of a classic computer role-playing game. An AI dungeon master handles narration and character responses while fifth-edition rules from the System Reference Document govern every check, save, spell, and combat encounter. Players create a hero from seven races and twelve classes, roll ability scores with 4d6, select spells from an illustrated deck, and choose a miniature and portrait before entering the Stonebrook region.

Gameplay

Character creation leads directly into play where typed actions or dialogue drive the story without dialogue trees. The AI dungeon master narrates outcomes, generates replies from every villager and companion in distinct voices produced locally on the PC, and enforces rules through a separate referee system that validates claims against the real character sheet. Exploration covers the village of Stonebrook with its Silver Anvil inn, the dense Whispering Woods, the Gnomish Hills and Tinkertown workshops, the dwarven halls of Khazad-Gorrim, the Lower Roads beneath the city, and deeper dungeons below. Turn-based tactical combat occurs on a virtual tabletop with visible dice rolls, and players can command companions directly or allow them to act autonomously. Companions maintain opinions about the player and each other, enabling party chats filled with in-character banter. Recruiting new members happens through conversation rather than menus, with success determined by persuasion and dice. Every non-player character carries personality, background, and memory, reacting consistently to past interactions whether through bargains, threats, or alliances. Spells remain limited to those known by the character and drawn only from the fifth-edition SRD, while romance options stay opt-in and fade to black when they reach intimate territory.

Game Modes

The game operates in a single-player format centered on the Stonebrook module. Players progress through the region at their own pace, handling exploration, social encounters, and combat as they choose. The core loop combines free-form roleplay with enforced mechanics: any plan expressible in words can be attempted, yet impossible actions fail when checked against the character sheet. Dice rolls appear physically on the virtual table for ability checks, saving throws, and attacks. Combat supports both direct control of the party and autonomous companion behavior, keeping encounters tactical and grounded in the ruleset. No additional modes such as multiplayer or separate campaigns appear in the available content.

Story and Setting

The narrative unfolds in the Stonebrook region north of Valaria near the Falkenberg border in the foothills of the Ironhearth Mountains. Stonebrook serves as the starting village, while surrounding areas include ancient woods that discourage lingering, rolling highlands with gnomish workshops, dwarven halls carved into mountain faces, old underground workings, and deeper cellars and caves. The story remains open because the AI dungeon master responds to player input rather than following fixed paths, yet all changes to hit points, gold, items, experience, and quest progress occur only through the game's systems. Artwork, music, and voices received AI assistance during development, but the rules layer stays independent of narrative claims.

Technical Approach and Safeguards

AI language models generate the narrator and character replies in real time, with voices synthesized locally. An independent check screens every generated response before display; unsuitable content triggers a fade-to-black replacement. The rules engine never yields to narrative statements, and only fifth-edition SRD spells available to the character can be cast. The single developer built the title with AI tools for certain assets while preserving strict separation between story generation and mechanical integrity.

Is It Worth Playing?

Tirona suits players who enjoy fifth-edition rules, open-ended roleplay, and AI-assisted storytelling without requiring a human group or game master. The combination of typed freedom, visible dice, turn-based combat, and persistent companion memories delivers a tabletop-like session on a single PC. Those seeking rigid quest structures or multiplayer options may find the experience narrower, while fans of flexible social encounters and tactical fights grounded in established rules will find the systems align closely with the described mechanics. The Stonebrook module provides a contained starting area with multiple distinct locations to explore at launch.
