About The Deep Rises

The Deep Rises - about the game

The Deep Rises is a singleplayer strategy indie game that blends roguelite progression with auto-battler combat on PC. Players navigate a map under constant time pressure from an advancing final boss, building a kit of items that handle fights automatically while making deliberate choices about exploration, resource gathering, and village protection.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on a map that functions as both a world and a clock. The final boss moves one tile for every four steps the player takes, giving four days to prepare before the confrontation. Each action on the map costs time, forcing trade-offs between fighting fog-dwelling enemies, opening chests, visiting villages for shops, and lighting beacons to slow the boss. At each dawn, enemies across the map grow stronger, raising the stakes for every detour or delay.

Combat runs without direct player input once a kit is assembled. Items trigger from left to right in a set order, chaining effects such as Burn, Venom, Armor, and extra strikes. Players rank items up and select Oaths at each level that alter rules in their favor. The kit evolves through these upgrades, turning preparation into the main skill expression rather than moment-to-moment commands.

Villages add another layer of decision-making. Ringing a village bell before the boss arrives rewards militia support in the final fight, gold, or gear. Ignoring one causes it to drown, turning its people into enemies that bolster the boss instead. The final encounter therefore reflects every prior choice across the run.

Each of the 30 bosses alters the map differently and fights with unique patterns. One scorches the Road, another dispatches hounds, and a third floods chests away. These changes mean a successful kit from one run may require adjustments for the next.

Game Modes

The primary experience is a roguelite run where players select a hero and three item families from five available options. Families include fire, venom, items that scale with wins, gold converted to damage, and ink that turns foes against their allies. After a win, the run advances through 12 FORCE levels, each introducing a visible new rule that reshapes future attempts.

The Daily March serves as a distinct shared mode. It delivers one identical run per day for all players, limited to a single attempt, with results tracked on leaderboards. This creates a communal challenge separate from standard roguelite runs that can be saved and resumed at any point.

Full controller support and Steam Deck compatibility extend the singleplayer focus, allowing sessions to pause and continue without loss of progress. The structure emphasizes replayability through procedural elements and the permanent consequences of village outcomes and boss variations.

Key Mechanics and Features

Item families and hero selection drive variety across runs. With 7 heroes and 16 families in the complete version, combinations produce distinct playstyles centered on chaining status effects and scaling power. Beacons, chests, and village bells provide tactical pauses in the time-limited map, while the auto-battler kit rewards careful ordering and Oath choices over direct control.

Visual and audio elements support focused play. Crisp 2-bit pixel art with optional CRT glow and five color palettes keeps the map readable, and a soundtrack introduces a new voice at each dawn alongside unique final themes for bosses. These details reinforce the pressure of the advancing threat without overwhelming the strategic choices.

Is It Worth Playing?

The game suits players who enjoy roguelites that emphasize preparation, time management, and long-term consequences over fast reflexes. Its auto-battler combat shifts focus to kit-building and map decisions, appealing to those who like strategy games with clear cause-and-effect systems. The Daily March adds a daily challenge element for those seeking consistent, comparable runs.

Because the title remains in development with a coming-soon release, no widespread player data exists yet. The described systems offer a self-contained loop of exploration, upgrades, and escalating threats that rewards repeated attempts through varied boss effects and item synergies. Those drawn to indie strategy titles with roguelite structure and singleplayer depth will find the core loop intact in the available demo content.
