About Taskbar Legends

Taskbar Legends - about the game

Taskbar Legends is a free-to-play idle auto-battler that runs directly on the Windows taskbar. Players build and manage a party of heroes while the game handles combat and progression in the background, allowing work or other activities to continue uninterrupted on the desktop.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on hero management and expedition preparation. Six heroes are positioned across three rows: front for tanks that absorb damage, mid for melee damage dealers, and back for healers, ranged attackers, and support units. Placement directly influences survival and output in fights.

Each hero possesses a unique kit and contributes specific damage schools. Bosses resist or remain vulnerable to certain schools, which encourages lineup experimentation between encounters. Heroes gain permanent levels through combat and can be equipped with loot obtained from expeditions.

Gear strengthens the party through crafting and gem insertion. Heroes of the same tier can be fused at the Ascension Forge, where three matching units combine into one higher-tier hero up to tier five. The resulting hero retains the average level of the fused units and gains a new battlefield appearance along with roster stars.

Tradable heroes and gear exist as Steam inventory items. Active party members and equipped items lock to the account and cannot be traded until removed. Upgrades replace items outright rather than modifying them in place. Materials, food, and energy items stay outside the trading economy.

The taskbar overlay remains click-through and does not steal focus. It can be hidden for a clean desktop view and restored when progress checks or preparations are needed. An internet connection and Steam sign-in are required at all times.

Game Modes

Expeditions form the primary activity. A party can undertake a single run or continue through an endless session. Rewards of gold, experience, and loot secure permanently upon run completion, with subsequent laps featuring stronger enemies. Retreat preserves secured rewards while forfeiting current-run gains. Defeat leaves secured rewards, heroes, and equipped gear intact.

Return to camp allows recovery, energy restoration, and food preparation. Food buffs operate in real time, rewarding advance planning before expeditions begin. Additional activities include crafting, cooking, and fishing as part of camp management.

Daily login rewards, daily quests, and weekly quests provide ongoing objectives. The live hub displays online players and supports chat. A codex tracks heroes, enemies, items, builds, and overall progression.

Progression and Economy

Heroes advance through levels earned in battle and tier ascension. The system supports repeated experimentation because different damage schools interact variably with map bosses. Permanent power gains from levels and gear ensure steady growth even during background runs.

The economy emphasizes player trading of heroes and eligible gear while protecting active loadouts. Server-authoritative combat maintains fairness by preventing local file manipulation for fake clears or generated loot. Account, inventory, and rewards remain managed on the server.

Is It Worth Playing?

Taskbar Legends targets players who enjoy idle progression systems that operate with minimal active input. Its taskbar integration suits long PC sessions where background advancement complements other tasks. The formation-based combat and damage school mechanics add strategic layers to party building without requiring constant attention.

Because the game remains in a coming-soon state with no released version or player reviews available, its reception cannot yet be assessed. The described systems emphasize secure progression, a living trading economy, and low-interference desktop presence, which align with preferences for casual simulation and strategy titles that run alongside daily routines.
