About STARFADE

STARFADE - about the game

Starfade is a real-time strategy game for PC that places players in command of fleets across entire star systems. Developed as an indie title, it emphasizes large-scale warfare where control of key positions determines victory. The core loop revolves around managing ships, resources, and positioning in a seamless environment that spans from individual vessels to sector-wide views.

Gameplay

Command fleets of warships in real time across star systems filled with stars, planets, asteroid belts, and stations. Most travel occurs through ancient warp gates that serve as critical terrain features. Battles often concentrate around these gates, where holding the control station allows friendly fleets to pass freely while scattering enemy forces. A continuous zoom feature lets players shift perspective instantly from a single ship's weapons to the full star system or sector map without loading screens.

Intelligence plays a major role because sensor range is limited. Outside coverage, enemy positions appear only as last-known locations that grow less accurate over time. Supply lines form the foundation of sustained operations. Mining barges extract resources from asteroid belts, freighters transport materials, and fleets consume supplies for missiles, repairs, fighter rearming, and jumps. Cutting off a fleet's supply weakens it progressively until it becomes ineffective. Players can raid enemy convoys to disrupt these arteries even when outnumbered on the front lines.

Ship command focuses on task forces rather than individual units. Screens, line ships, and carriers assume formation roles automatically, leaving players to direct high-impact actions such as a battleship's broadside, a carrier's fighter launches, or a titan's jump. Supercarriers deliver concentrated strikes by jumping into combat and deploying waves of fighters. Hull variants are selected during construction and remain visually distinct in battle. Jump mechanics add tactical depth through cloaked scouts that deploy beacons, allowing titans to open rifts for surprise fleet movements past defended positions.

Game Modes

Skirmish allows matches against AI on sector maps of varying sizes. Online co-op supports two to four players cooperating against AI opponents. Competitive play includes ranked 1v1 and 2v2 matches along with team battles reaching up to 4v4. Conquest mode spans 30 to 60 star systems divided between two alliances and unfolds across multiple sessions, with the war state saved between play periods.

Factions and Campaigns

Three distinct factions shape strategic approaches. The Terran Directorate relies on industrial strength through extensive supply lines, missile barrages, and flexible refits that adapt existing fleets. The Asterian Concord emphasizes elite, high-quality ships featuring linked shields, flanking phase jumps, and the ability to seal gates. The Veyl operates as a biological swarm that expands reefs across systems, travels between stars without gates, consumes wreckage for resources, and adapts to opposing weaponry.

Three story campaigns plus a finale let players experience the conflict from different perspectives: a Directorate captain who turns rebel, the heir to a declining alien dynasty, and the first Veyl entity to develop individual awareness. Ships that survive missions carry forward, allowing hero vessels to improve over time. The campaigns reveal that the gates themselves have hidden effects on distant stars.

Is It Worth Playing?

Starfade suits players who enjoy real-time strategy with emphasis on logistics, positioning around fixed terrain features like gates, and multi-scale decision making. The persistent fleet progression across campaigns and the option for extended Conquest sessions provide depth for those who prefer longer engagements over quick matches. Co-op and ranked modes broaden appeal for groups or competitive players. Availability on PC makes it accessible for strategy fans seeking an indie take on fleet command in space.
