About Siegecrawler

Siegecrawler - about the game

Siegecrawler is a single-player strategy indie game that puts players in command of a self-propelled siege engine loaded with fantasy soldiers. The core loop centers on building a formation of units, launching the engine toward castle walls, and directing the fight through spells and commands while the crew handles combat automatically. Physics governs every impact, with individual wall blocks that can be targeted and destroyed to bring down entire structures and the defenders on them.

Gameplay

Players assemble a crew from seven unit classes including knights, archers, mages, lancers, clerics, berserkers, and arbalests. These units are positioned across siege towers and a battering ram, where squad synergies provide bonuses such as increased melee health and band bonuses that vary by placement. Four commanders shape each run with distinct trade-offs, such as the Ram King boosting ram damage and timing windows at the cost of all ranged units, the Arcane Legion granting immediate access to spells with a reduced deck size, or the Elite Few limiting slots but doubling unit power.

Once the engine launches, battles proceed on their own until the player intervenes. Five click-cast spells on individual cooldowns allow real-time adjustments, right-click focus targeting directs attacks, and three war horns issue Advance, Retreat, or Focus orders. The ram strike requires precise timing on a gauge for a Just Hit that pauses the action briefly and amplifies the impact. Every wall block functions as a separate physics object with its own health, and colored blocks introduce variety such as Powder Kegs that explode to damage large sections, Sally Ports that spawn additional foes, or Supply Crates that restore mana. Environmental effects like Rockfall, Thunderstorms, Toxic Mire, and Crumbling Keeps further alter the battlefield conditions during runs.

Progression rewards persistence across failed attempts. Unit experience carries over, unlocking access to six skills per class that can be equipped two at a time, with full access at higher levels. Permanent upgrades purchased with treasure expand options such as additional skill slots or improved relic chances without granting direct power increases, encouraging experimentation with combinations rather than repeated grinding.

Game Modes

The game structures its content around a campaign of 30 stages followed by an Endless mode. Each stage presents a new castle configuration and set of environmental conditions that players must overcome with their chosen commander, formation, and mid-run oaths. These oaths function as deliberate trades that alter stats in exchange for advantages, requiring players to adapt their strategy on the fly. The roguelike structure means every run offers fresh combinations of units, spells, and battlefield moods, with failure serving as the primary way to unlock broader options for future attempts.

Core Mechanics and Progression

Unit placement and commander selection form the foundation of each build, with synergies stacking across squads and decks. The auto-battle system keeps the focus on high-level decisions rather than constant micro-management, while the spell casting and horn commands provide direct control during critical moments. Wall destruction relies on accurate targeting of weak points, and the physics simulation ensures that breaking foundations can collapse entire towers along with any units positioned on them. Permanent upgrades emphasize flexibility, allowing players to experiment with different skill combinations and starting configurations without relying on numerical power creep.

Is It Worth Playing?

Siegecrawler appeals to players who enjoy roguelike strategy games with physics-based destruction and run-based experimentation. The single-player focus and emphasis on formation building, commander choices, and adaptive oaths create a loop centered on planning and quick reactions during auto-battles. With 30 stages leading into Endless mode, the structure supports repeated playthroughs that reward learning unit interactions and environmental hazards. Since the game remains in development and has not yet released, interested players can follow its progress for updates on availability. Those drawn to indie strategy titles that blend roguelike elements with hands-on command during automated combat will find the verified mechanics a strong match for that preference.
