About SHADOW OF THE KINGDOM

SHADOW OF THE KINGDOM - about the game

Shadow of the Kingdom is an indie RPG for PC that places a single player in control of real-time party combat drawn from MMORPG systems. Set on the undying continent of Elysia, the game follows adventurers chosen to face Trials amid slipping seals and invading monsters. The narrative centers on being selected by the world rather than saving it, with three heroes fighting autonomously while the player directs hatred and timing.

Gameplay

Combat runs without turns or pauses in the action. Auto-attacks continue landing as TP builds, and every strike shifts enemy hatred. Skill chains form when one character lands a weapon skill and another follows within four seconds, roughly doubling damage. A spell dropped into the same window creates a Magic Burst for roughly four times the output. TP carries forward between encounters inside a dungeon, allowing players to enter boss rooms with momentum already built.

Hatred operates in two layers: cumulative enmity that drops on hits and volatile enmity that decays each second. The Guardian taunts to hold attention while the Rogue can dump accumulated hatred onto the shield via Trick Attack. Defensive stances halt back-line damage once it exceeds eighty percent of the shield's hate. Numbers remain visible throughout, yet maintaining control demands constant adjustment as damage output and positioning alter the balance.

Players select three jobs from ten available options. The Guardian focuses on taunts and barriers. The Phantom relies on clones and illusions to avoid hits. The Gladiator delivers direct damage with follow-up strikes. The Reaver trades personal health for power. The Rogue manipulates hatred and inspects chests. The Sorcerer performs long casts for high payoff. The Spellblade infuses blades with elements. The Evoker summons spirits. The Cleric heals and removes afflictions. The Troubadour supports the party through songs. The AI handles the other two characters, though manual control of any member is available at any time, including full manual play during demanding fights. Pause and fast-forward options support different play styles.

Exploration occurs across a grid-based dungeon system that reshuffles with each descent. Fog of war lifts only in explored areas. Chests contain gear, gold, or temporary boosts, with some acting as mimics. Ancient altars offer map reveals, health or mana increases, or full restoration, limited to one choice per floor. Eight trap types include damage, mana drain, forced teleports, and ambushes. Tall grass conceals encounters that can be avoided or used for farming. Towns provide access to a black market, desert trader, and royal library, plus an arena offering eight challenges for medals and exclusive items. A monster codex records defeated enemies and reveals weaknesses over time. Gear totals 375 pieces across weapons, armor, and accessories in rare and legendary tiers, with immediate stat previews on equip and blacksmith upgrades that raise caps.

Game Modes

The core experience revolves around dungeon descents on a world map spanning 23 locations and 18 dungeons, two of which remain hidden until specific conditions are met. Floor counts vary from three in early forest areas to twenty in the Dark Castle. Exploration percentage tracks progress in the HUD, encouraging full mapping for achievements. After the main story concludes with the defeat of the Dark Lord, a post-game mode opens the Abyss, a 100-floor challenge where every tenth floor pits the player against a strengthened version of a previously defeated king. Job levels advance to 60 in this mode, and gear reaches its highest tier. The arena functions as a separate challenge hub with eight distinct trials. Elemental resistance systems shift effectiveness between dungeons, requiring adaptation in party composition and equipment.

Progression and Features

Jobs reach level 50 during the main campaign and level 60 after the Dark Lord falls. Four party stances influence behavior, such as shifting to defensive priorities. An elemental resistance system alters what damage types penetrate defenses across different areas. The game supports full controller input alongside mouse-only play and includes eight language options. Three save slots, an original soundtrack, and a 17-chapter in-game manual provide additional structure. Fifty-five achievements cover full dungeon mapping, Abyss depth, maximum job levels across all ten classes, codex completion, and arena victories, with two hidden entries.

Is It Worth Playing?

Shadow of the Kingdom suits players who enjoy precise timing in real-time combat and managing layered hatred mechanics without traditional turn-based pauses. The single-player focus on chaining skills, positioning three autonomous heroes, and navigating reshuffling grid dungeons offers depth for those drawn to complex party systems. Post-game content in the Abyss extends play for completionists seeking higher job caps and stronger gear. With no released player reviews available at this stage, interest depends on preference for MMO-inspired combat adapted to solo control and roguelike exploration elements. The game is available on PC once released.
