About Settle or Sweep

Settle or Sweep - about the game

Settle or Sweep is a single-player strategy card game on PC that adapts the core rules of Durak into a run-based roguelike deckbuilder format. Players build combos through attacks and defenses while managing a shared deck that shrinks over time, pushing scores from modest totals into the millions and beyond through multipliers and careful decisions about when to settle for points or sweep cards into hand for future use.

Gameplay

The central loop revolves around attacking with one or more cards of the same rank and defending those attacks using a higher card of the matching suit or a wild card from the designated suit. Additional cards matching ranks already on the table can be added to increase pressure. A fully defended table can be discarded for points, while an undefended one forces the defender to take every card on it into their hand, shifting resources for later tables in the same round.

Both players draw from the same dwindling deck after each table resolves, with the attacker refilling first. This shared resource creates tension as every card removed alters future draws for both sides. Taking a table scores zero points immediately but provides more cards to play on subsequent tables, allowing strategic choices between immediate scoring and building larger hands for bigger combos later.

Special cards known as psychics allow targeted changes such as promoting ranks, cloning cards, removing threats, gilding for bonuses, altering suits, or applying wild stamps. Rigs modify core rules around attacking, defending, drawing, and scoring. These elements combine with upgraded cards and leveled rigs to scale points dramatically across a run.

Game Modes

The game centers on a main run that players complete before continuing into higher score targets with the same deck. Each run emphasizes chain combos and stacked multipliers to escalate totals rapidly. Different decks serve as the primary variations, each featuring unique starting cards, limits, and special rules that shift priorities for which cards to take, change, attack with, or defend against.

Unlocking new decks expands the experience by altering the available tools and optimal strategies without changing the fundamental attack-defend-take structure. The progression encourages repeated runs to experiment with these variations while refining upgrades and rig selections to push further into escalating score challenges.

Deck Building and Progression

Progression focuses on collecting and upgrading cards alongside rigs that persist or evolve across attempts. Upgraded cards directly boost the point value of attacks and defenses, while leveled rigs introduce rule alterations that reward specific play patterns. The shared deck mechanic means every choice about taking or defending influences both immediate scoring and the cards available to the opponent in future draws.

Players start with the House Deck and expand their options through unlocks. Each new deck modifies the card pool and rule set, creating fresh decision points about resource management and combo building. This system supports long sessions of experimentation as runs extend beyond the initial completion into ever-higher score thresholds.

Is It Worth Playing?

Settle or Sweep suits players who enjoy strategic card games with roguelike elements and a focus on resource timing rather than direct confrontation. The Durak foundation provides a clear structure that rewards precise decisions about when to defend fully or absorb cards for later advantage, while the deck variations and upgrade paths add depth for those who like optimizing runs.

Its casual accessibility pairs with strategic layers that scale in complexity through multipliers and rule changes. Those interested in single-player experiences built around shared-deck tension and escalating scores will find consistent engagement in the core loop and deck unlocks. The game remains a focused indie title centered on these mechanics without additional layers or external content.
