About Pegs of Hell

Pegs of Hell - about the game

Pegs of Hell is a single-player strategy and casual game that combines pachinko mechanics with roguelike progression and board-building decisions. Players construct custom machines on hand-authored layouts to meet rising quotas before the house claims their soul as collateral.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on placing pegs to guide falling balls through increasingly complex patterns. Each drop starts with an aim that reveals a precise trajectory, and the ball interacts with every peg it contacts to generate earnings, multipliers, splits, redirects, or revivals. Peg types alter physics directly: splitters create additional balls, magnets pull trajectories, portals return balls to play, echoes repeat effects, revenants restore trapdoors, and bumpers launch balls upward again. Elemental pegs for fire, spark, earth, and water accumulate charge that rewards specific formations and chain reactions across the board.

Five Arcana cards sit beside the board and activate in left-to-right order, so their sequence influences final scoring. Players rearrange them each round to optimize multipliers and abilities. At key moments, an Arcana can be burned to sacrifice its slot in exchange for a permanent Eternal Power, such as extra drops per round or mutated peg behavior. Upgrades branch across 95 paths, each advancing through five levels, and affect every instance of a peg type on the current board. Lifetime earnings unlock rarer pegs and Arcana for future attempts, stored in illustrated grimoires that track maximum values and powers.

Deterministic physics ensure the visible golden trajectory matches the actual outcome unless the board itself changes mid-drop. Across 100 distinct boards, layouts range from spirals and lattices to thematic shapes like skulls or crescents, each with its own cap and record to chase.

Game Modes

Seven distinct modes shape how runs unfold. The Induction serves as a seven-chapter tutorial that introduces placement, upgrades, Arcana sequencing, burning, economy, and combat through guided play. The Seven Rings campaign descends through themed circles of casino-Hell, each tied to a vice and ruled by associated Arcana such as The Fool in the Carnival of Folly or Hydra and Death in the War Below.

Classic Run follows the Fate Trail with drafted pegs each round while rent escalates. Blind Pit removes the trail and draft, forcing adaptation to two random pegs supplied every round. Pit Boss shifts focus to banking surplus for interest and purchasing upgrades from a shop whose prices rise with the rent. Collections Night converts scoring into damage against enemies that telegraph attacks, corrupt sockets, and drain resources, requiring defensive trade-offs. Daily Descent delivers one shared seed, board, and attempt for all players that day.

Progression and Systems

Permanent unlocks come from total winnings rather than single-run performance, allowing gradual expansion of available pegs and Arcana. Combat elements appear in certain modes through wards, soul wells, and skull pegs that convert board-building into offensive tools against collectors. Four elemental systems encourage different spatial arrangements, while 16 Arcana offer varied passive effects and upgrade branches. The presentation uses pixel art for a casino-Hell aesthetic, with an optional 3D cabinet view or flat 2D perspective.

Is It Worth Playing?

Pegs of Hell targets players who enjoy deliberate placement puzzles, incremental optimization, and roguelike decision-making without real-time pressure. Its single-player focus and branching upgrades reward repeated experimentation across the same boards and modes. The game remains in development with a planned release in October 2026, so current details rest on the confirmed mechanics and features. Those drawn to physics-driven strategy and customizable scoring engines will find the described systems align closely with that preference.
