About Nation

Nation - about the game

Nation is a strategy card game that puts players in charge of building and defending a civilization through quick head-to-head deckbuilding duels. Each match pits two nations against each other in a race to reduce the opponent's health from 70 to zero using a mix of production, growth, and combat cards. Games typically last 10 to 15 minutes, making it easy to fit multiple rounds into a session on PC.

Gameplay

Every turn revolves around playing cards from a hand to generate five core resources. Food supports population growth and expansion. Happiness prevents unrest among the people. Science advances the nation to new ages with stronger options. Coins purchase additional cards from a shared market. Swords deal direct damage to the rival's health. Success depends on balancing these elements, as overcommitting to one leaves gaps in others that an opponent can exploit.

Deck construction happens through a shared market filled with cards such as Huts, Hunters, Markets, Universities, Thieves, Time Machines, and more advanced items like Giant Robots of Death. Purchases add directly to the player's deck, altering future turns and strategies. No two matches unfold identically because market choices and draws create unique paths forward.

Nations progress through ages by accumulating Science. Each age shift updates the available cards in the market and presents branching decisions on new decks. Options include focusing on military strength, accelerating research, or boosting public morale. Later ages introduce increasingly powerful and unconventional tools for turning the tide.

Game Modes

The campaign mode challenges players against a series of AI opponents, each with distinct decks and approaches. These rivals include figures like Crug the caveman, Alexander the Mediocre, Joan of Architecture, Mr. Bufferberg, Robert Ot, and Montezuma. Each opponent features three difficulty stages that ramp up in complexity.

Ranked online 1v1 allows competitive matches against other players, with an ELO system tracking progress across five tiers from Yellow to Red. Private matches enable direct online duels with friends without matchmaking. Pass and Play supports local sessions on a single device by alternating turns between participants.

Progression ties into all modes through Stars earned from wins and achievements. These Stars unlock additional cards for the market, extra campaign content, and new board layouts. The system encourages repeated play without external purchases.

Core Mechanics and Progression

The shared market and age advancement create a tight loop of resource management and adaptation. Players must read the current board state, anticipate opponent moves, and decide when to invest in defense versus offense. Deckbuilding remains accessible yet deep, as early choices influence long-term options without requiring extensive setup time.

Unlockables expand variety over time. New cards alter market pools and strategies, while fresh board layouts change visual and tactical elements. All content remains available after the initial purchase, with no timers or additional barriers.

Is It Worth Playing?

Nation suits players who enjoy fast-paced strategy card games with deckbuilding elements and direct competition. Its short match length and straightforward rules make it approachable for casual sessions, while the resource balancing and market decisions provide ongoing depth for those seeking repeated play. The premium model delivers full access to single-player campaigns, online modes, and local play in one package.

Those looking for sprawling empire management or large-scale multiplayer may find the focused one-on-one format limiting. The game emphasizes quick learning and tactical puzzles over long campaigns or complex simulations. With its emphasis on earned content and cross-platform online support, it appeals to strategy fans who value concise, replayable duels on PC.
