About Loot Hole

Loot Hole - about the game

Loot Hole is an indie casual simulation game focused on first-person digging and treasure hunting in your own front yard on PC. Players grab a shovel and excavate through layers of soil and rock, unearthing over 190 items that range from everyday junk to rare treasures, then sell them to fund better equipment and continue the descent.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on digging downward in a persistent yard where every swing removes dirt permanently. Surface layers yield common items like bottle caps and pennies, while deeper strata hold pocket watches, ancient coins, glowing crystals, and legendary finds such as a toaster, nutcracker, treasure chest, crown, or dragon egg. Each discovery emerges with a sparkle and color-coded rarity glow. Stringing together quick successive finds builds combos that boost sale value, and completing item sets in the collection increases earnings across matching pieces.

Ten distinct layers separate the lawn from the core, each progressively harder and ending at a unique landmark that guarantees a rare item. These include an old well, pirate's chest, mammoth skeleton, underground lake, crystal cathedral, lost temple, and river of lava. When tools struggle against stone or slate, players can purchase and throw dynamite or bundles from Mr. Bolt to blast through obstacles and dislodge additional finds. Upgrades purchased with sale proceeds include ten tools from a basic rusty shovel to a core drill, expanded backpacks, jetpacks for quick returns to the surface, and lamps for visibility in darker depths. Neighbors post requests for specific items that pay premium prices, adding targeted goals to the digging sessions.

Game Modes

Loot Hole supports solo play as the primary experience, where the focus remains on personal progression through the yard and collection. Multiplayer allows up to three additional players to join the same yard via Steam invites or a shared code. All participants dig the identical ground, with finds shared so the first to reach one claims it. Tools, coins, and collected items carry over when visiting other yards and return home afterward. Players can chat, use emotes, contribute coins to help friends, and take turns with the dog during joint sessions.

Progression and Customization

Sales go to Grandpa Joe at the yard stall, with proceeds spent at Mr. Bolt's adjacent booth for the upgrades mentioned earlier. Adopting a dog from the kennel adds a companion from 16 breeds that sniffs out nearby buried items or digs independently before delivering finds. Training improves its ability to locate rarer objects, and players can interact with it freely. Customization options let owners add garden features like a football goal or basketball hoop, place gnomes, repaint the house exterior, and change the digger's appearance through the wardrobe. The game includes full controller support and localization in 23 languages.

Is It Worth Playing?

Loot Hole suits players who enjoy relaxed simulation gameplay built around steady progression and collection. The digging mechanics reward persistence with visible depth gains and satisfying item reveals, while the upgrade path and set bonuses create clear long-term goals. Multiplayer adds a cooperative layer for those who prefer shared sessions without competitive pressure. As an early access title, it continues to receive development focused on the core systems described. Those drawn to cozy, methodical resource-gathering experiences on PC will find a consistent loop here, particularly if they appreciate pet companions and light customization alongside the main excavation activity.
