About King of Kingdoms

King of Kingdoms - about the game

King of Kingdoms is a casual puzzle game on PC where players build a kingdom by placing dominoes and numbered upgrade squares on a grid. The experience centers on careful placement and scoring rather than speed or combat, creating a relaxed yet strategic session that rewards thoughtful decisions about growth and value placement.

Gameplay

The core loop begins with a single castle placed in the center of a 7x7 grid. Across 24 rounds, three pieces appear at a time, and the player selects one to place. Pieces consist of two-square dominoes or single upgrade squares marked with a number. Each piece can be rotated freely before placement, provided it touches the existing kingdom structure. This outward expansion gradually fills the board with connected terrain.

Six terrain types appear during play: wheat, water, mountains, swamps, forest, and plains. Scoring depends entirely on the single largest connected patch of each terrain type. The value of that patch equals the number of squares multiplied by the total numbers contained within it. Smaller patches of the same terrain receive no points, which forces players to focus on consolidating one strong area per type while embedding high-value upgrades. The tension arises from choosing pieces that support both expansion and scoring without fragmenting efforts across multiple weak patches.

Game Modes

Random puzzles generate fresh boards on demand, each assigned a unique code that allows sharing with others for direct score comparisons. Every completed board saves automatically and sorts by performance, with leaderboards available for each one and filters for friends only.

The daily mode delivers one new board each day that remains identical for all players worldwide. Only the first attempt counts toward the daily leaderboard and personal streak, though additional practice runs remain private. Weekly seasons span seven days and reset on Monday, with standings based on the best five days to accommodate occasional absences while still rewarding consistent participation.

Challenge mode lets players send a specific board and target score to friends. The recipient sees the challenge upon their next session, and both parties receive clearance once the attempt resolves. This system also serves as a direct path to claiming crowns on boards already led by the sender.

Leaderboards and Progression

Crowns represent long-term achievement. A player holds a crown for every board where they sit at the top, but only if at least one other person has played that board. The player with the most crowns earns the title of King of Kingdoms, displayed prominently for the community. Crowns transfer immediately when another player surpasses the score, keeping the system competitive and dynamic.

Seasons add structure through weekly resets and the best-five-days mechanic, while the daily format creates a shared global experience without requiring daily grinding. The combination supports both solitary puzzle solving and light social competition through shared codes and challenges.

Is It Worth Playing?

King of Kingdoms suits players who enjoy deliberate, pressure-free puzzles with clear scoring systems and optional competitive layers. The absence of timers or enemies allows full focus on placement strategy and terrain optimization. Those drawn to daily challenges, personal streaks, and visible leaderboards will find ongoing reasons to return, while the crown system provides a longer-term goal tied directly to consistent high performance across shared boards.

The game delivers its full experience through the described modes without additional requirements. Players seeking a calm yet mentally engaging session that scales from quick random puzzles to structured seasonal competition will find the mechanics rewarding. The emphasis on biggest-patch scoring and value placement creates meaningful decisions in every round, making each session feel purposeful regardless of play style.
