About INKTRICK

INKTRICK - about the game

INKTRICK is a roguelike card game built around strategy, ink, and stamps on PC. Players sit across from Fibus in a series of trick-taking rounds where following suit and collecting ink form the base loop, yet stamps quickly shift the balance of power on the table.

Gameplay

The core loop begins with a standard hand of 32 cards running from 7 to ace across four suits. Each round players follow suit to win tricks and gather ink, but the real depth comes from the stamps. Multiple stamp types exist in three tiers, and each one alters card behavior in distinct ways. One stamp elevates an 8 into the trump suit. Another designates a trick as the decisive one. A third inverts the entire ranking so that aces lose all value. Stamps stack on individual cards, allowing a seemingly weak hand to become dominant when the player plans ahead across multiple rounds.

After each boss victory a twist enters play. These permanent rule changes remain for the rest of the run and can either help or hinder depending on how they interact with existing stamps and cards. Two twists often combine in unexpected ways, turning the later stages into an entirely different game from the opening hands. Between runs the collection expands through stamp upgrades and card packs that offer choices such as the night-blue ace, which always functions as trump.

One complete game consists of four hands, keeping sessions short enough for repeated attempts. The visual style uses a friendly color palette and paper-cut aesthetic, supported by cozy music and distinctive sound effects. Controls work with mouse, keyboard, or controller, and the game supports both English and German.

Game Modes

INKTRICK offers a single continuous campaign structure divided into five stages. Each stage requires twelve games to complete, with difficulty increasing after every victory. Four of those twelve games are boss encounters that introduce their own special rules while still competing for tricks. Clearing one stage unlocks the next, and there is no way to return to earlier stages once progress is made.

Defeat ends the run immediately, sending the player back to the start with a fresh set of cards, stamps, and twists. The roguelike progression encourages experimentation with different stamp combinations and twist selections across multiple attempts. No separate multiplayer or versus modes appear in the design; the focus stays on solo runs against the AI opponent Fibus.

Progression and Collection

Between runs players build a growing collection. Stamp upgrades improve existing options, while packs provide new cards to choose from. Special editions such as the night-blue ace add permanent advantages that carry forward. This system rewards consistent play by expanding the tools available for future attempts, turning early losses into opportunities for stronger builds later.

The five-stage structure ensures steady escalation. Early stages introduce basic stamp interactions, while later stages layer multiple twists and higher difficulty. Each boss fight adds a unique rule that must be navigated alongside the standard trick-taking and stamping mechanics.

Is It Worth Playing?

INKTRICK suits players who enjoy strategic card games with roguelike elements and short session lengths. The stamp system and twist choices create meaningful decisions that reward forward planning without requiring long matches. The cozy presentation and quick four-hand structure make it accessible for casual play, while the stacking mechanics and rule changes provide depth for repeated runs.

Those who prefer traditional trick-taking without modification or who dislike permadeath runs may find the format less appealing. The game delivers a focused single-player experience centered on adapting to changing rules and building a stronger hand over time. Availability on PC with controller support broadens its reach for strategy fans looking for an indie title with clear mechanical identity.
