About Goblins and Gunslingers

Goblins and Gunslingers - about the game

Goblins and Gunslingers is a western-fantasy trading card game that blends spellcasting with six-shooter tactics on a multi-lane battlefield. Players build decks from eight outlaw factions and duel across a frontier where positioning, timing, and dual-resource management decide the outcome. The game emphasizes open combat rather than rigid lane trades, with creatures able to target across the field once cover is cleared.

Gameplay

Duels unfold on a seven-position field consisting of five middle lanes and two high-rise roosts. Creatures occupy these slots, and placement influences attack lines, cover interactions, and high-ground advantages. Middle lanes support multiple units and allow direct sheriff strikes once cover tokens are removed, while high-rise positions offer concealment until the unit attacks.

Two resources drive play. Mana ramps each turn without limit and funds spells and creature summons. Gold arrives at a steady rate plus bonuses from damage dealt to the opponent and pays for deputies and certain item effects. This split creates distinct pacing: mana favors long-term spell investment while gold rewards aggressive board pressure.

Attacks follow open combat rules. Any creature can target any valid enemy unit or cover token rather than being locked to an opposing lane. Mechanics such as ricochets, last stands, and must-attack warrants add layers of interaction and force careful reads of the board state. Flying creatures bypass cover entirely, and overshot damage can spill through blockers.

The signature Gnome-to-Golem transformation lets players charge a gnome with a spell to flip it into a larger golem form mid-duel. The transformation preserves the creature's lane, damage, and attachments, requiring two opposing spells to reverse. This system supports dedicated gnome-golem archetypes and rewards precise timing.

Deck construction draws from eight factions: Humans, Goblins, Desert Devils, Straw Elves, Gnomes with their golem forms, Dwarves, and wild Beasts that slot into any build. Players select up to two main factions plus any number of beasts, with copy limits maintaining balance. Deputies sit outside the main deck and provide off-board abilities or powerful on-field presence when summoned.

Game Modes

Four distinct modes support different play styles. The story tutorial presents a four-part cinematic campaign that teaches core rules while following a narrative from stagecoach wreck to sheriff status.

Online multiplayer allows ranked matches against other players with cheat-resistant systems and account-linked collections. Skirmish mode offers quick practice duels against computer opponents for testing decks or offline sessions.

Frontier Run functions as a roguelike campaign where players build decks on the fly, select branching routes, visit shops, and manage trail health across multiple stages. Rewards and upgrades carry forward within a single run, extending the core duel rules into longer solo progression.

Deckbuilding and Factions

Deckbuilding centers on 52-card constructions limited to two primary factions alongside flexible beast inclusions. Each faction brings distinct deputies, keywords, and win conditions that reward synergy or creatureless strategies. The absence of purchasable power advantages means every card remains earnable through play.

Faction variety supports pressure, control, economy, and chaos approaches. Gnomes emphasize transformation timing, while other groups focus on gold generation, board wipes, or deputy synergies. Players experiment with razor-thin combinations or broader two-faction outfits.

Is It Worth Playing?

Goblins and Gunslingers delivers a free-to-play experience with full earnable collections and cross-platform account progress between browser and the upcoming desktop release. Its tactical emphasis on positioning across seven lanes, dual-resource clocks, and open combat distinguishes it from traditional single-lane card games.

The game suits players who value strategic depth in deck construction and in-game decision making over fast matches or cosmetic progression. Frontier Run provides substantial solo content, while online modes support competitive climbing. With the Steam launch scheduled for August 7, 2026, the title remains accessible now through its browser client for those interested in western-fantasy card duels that reward careful lane management and resource timing.
