About EPIBDA

EPIBDA - about the game

EPIBDA is an indie horror game for PC in which players step into the role of a temporary lighthouse keeper in a remote Icelandic fishing village. The core premise revolves around maintaining a beam of light to guide ships safely while preventing an enormous sea creature from advancing in the darkness. This singleplayer experience blends resource management with atmospheric tension across a compact narrative set in 1911.

Gameplay

The central loop requires constant attention to the lighthouse lens. The beam must stay fixed on the creature to keep it at bay, yet ships radio in for guidance through the reef. Diverting the light even briefly allows the giant to close the distance, and the tower itself reacts with creaks and shakes as it approaches. A dynamo provides limited power, holding a charge for roughly one minute before it runs dry. Players must decide when to crank it back to life, turning away from the window and leaving the beam off during those vulnerable moments.

Sound design plays a key role. Listening for water movement and joint creaks signals the creature's position and steps. The limited charge forces careful timing, and a single powerful flash remains available as a last resort to push the entity back, followed by eight seconds of complete darkness. By day, conversations with villagers reveal fragments of a larger story involving a lost French schooner and the light's historical importance. These interactions add layers without interrupting the nightly pressure.

Game Modes

EPIBDA offers a singleplayer narrative experience structured around seven consecutive nights. Each night escalates the challenge through the same core systems of beam management, ship guidance, and dynamo maintenance. There are no separate competitive or cooperative modes. The structure emphasizes repetition within a tight timeframe, allowing players to complete the full story in one sitting while pursuing thirty achievements tied to specific actions and survival choices.

Visuals and Atmosphere

The game adopts a low-poly aesthetic reminiscent of early PlayStation titles, layered with VHS grain, heavy fog, storms, and lightning effects. This style reinforces the isolation at the edge of the world. The village feels lived-in through its residents' guarded dialogue, while the sea and the approaching giant dominate the night sequences. Limited visibility and the constant need to monitor the beam heighten the sense of dread without relying on jump scares.

Is It Worth Playing?

EPIBDA suits players who enjoy short, focused horror experiences that prioritize tension and decision-making over lengthy campaigns or combat. The mechanics create meaningful trade-offs between saving ships and containing the threat, and the seven-night structure delivers a complete story with replay value through achievements. Those drawn to atmospheric singleplayer titles with resource constraints and PS1-inspired presentation will find the game aligns closely with that preference. Its compact length makes it accessible for an evening playthrough, and the blend of mechanical pressure with subtle village lore provides a distinct take on lighthouse keeper horror.
