About Double Sixes

Double Sixes - about the game

Double Sixes is an indie deckbuilder for PC that replaces traditional cards with domino tiles. Players build scoring chains by matching pips on a central line while managing limited plays per round and handling doubles that branch the layout instead of extending it.

Gameplay

The core loop revolves around drawing tiles into a hand and placing them to extend or branch a growing chain on the board. Matching pips to open ends keeps the sequence alive, while landing doubles creates new branches and raises the active multiplier. Enhanced tiles such as Gold, Iron, Crystal, Prismatic, Charm, and Slate add layered bonuses that stack during scoring. When no legal play remains, a relief tile prevents a full stall and keeps the round progressing. Between rounds, winnings fund purchases in a shop that offers new tiles and relics. These relics support different strategies, including builds focused on long chains, heavy use of doubles, or economy systems that convert cash into multiplier gains. Boss victories grant exclusive dominoes that carry unique effects tied to the encounter just completed. Each run features fresh tile draws and relic combinations, so successive attempts rarely repeat the same sequence or scoring path.

Game Modes

Standard rounds emphasize score chasing through chain construction and multiplier growth. Boss rounds require players to commit a finished chain via a dedicated Play Chain command, converting pips into final score multiplied by the current bonus. Duels shift the focus to head-to-head competition against one or more rivals. In these matches, participants alternate placing matching tiles, draw from the boneyard when blocked, and aim to empty their hand first. Safe duels feature a single opponent with lower risk, while Risky duels pit the player against two rivals simultaneously for greater rewards. Seven distinct bosses appear across acts, each imposing a rule change such as reduced hand size, disabled discards, capped chain length, locked pips, or removed double bonuses. The final encounter, The Twin, combines duel mechanics with two simultaneous rivals in a winner-take-all format that ends the run on defeat.

Progression and Builds

Relics and tile upgrades reshape scoring priorities across multiple runs. Some relics reward extended chains, others amplify double branches, and economy-focused options turn accumulated cash into sustained multipliers. Shop purchases occur between fights, allowing players to pivot strategies mid-run or prepare for upcoming bosses. Boss-exclusive dominoes provide permanent options that echo the twists faced during those encounters. The limited number of plays per round forces careful selection and timely discards of mismatched tiles. This structure supports repeated experimentation without fixed progression gates, letting players test lean efficient chains one attempt and double-heavy stacks the next.

Is It Worth Playing?

Double Sixes suits players who enjoy roguelike deckbuilders and want a fresh mechanical twist built around domino matching rather than card synergies. The run-based structure, branching chains, and multiplier systems deliver the familiar tension of score chasing while the duel mode adds direct competition. Seven bosses with distinct rule alterations and a final two-rival showdown provide clear variety across attempts. Shop and relic systems reward risk-taking and strategic adaptation. Those who appreciate precise placement decisions, combo building, and replayability through procedural hands and upgrades will find the game aligns closely with that preference. The indie presentation keeps focus on the core domino systems without extraneous layers.
