About Apocalypse Elysium

Apocalypse Elysium - about the game

Apocalypse Elysium is a single-player turn-based strategy RPG that blends grid-based tactical combat with character-driven storytelling. Players control a protagonist summoned from modern Japan into a fantasy world divided by war between a human kingdom and a demon army. The narrative unfolds entirely through dialogue among a growing cast of allies, without any narration or voice acting. Genres include strategy, indie, RPG, and adventure, all delivered on PC in a package that emphasizes careful positioning, resource management, and party building across dozens of stages.

Gameplay

Combat takes place on grid maps where every move requires foresight. Before acting, players preview hit rates, damage ranges, critical chances, and attack counts for each unit. Enemy threat zones appear in red, allowing players to draw foes out one by one rather than facing overwhelming numbers. Terrain matters directly: forests provide avoid and defense bonuses, while forts offer stronger protection. Reinforcement schedules and counts are visible before battles begin, so positioning and timing decide outcomes more than raw power.

Human and monster units follow distinct rules. Human weapons lose durability with each use and become unusable at zero, requiring careful conservation until a blacksmith joins the party to restore them between stages. Monster companions recover durability naturally each turn with their innate weapons. Gear occupies five slots per unit-head, shield, body, legs, and accessory-and provides automatic stat bonuses when carried, encouraging thoughtful assignment of limited items to define each character's battlefield role.

Monsters can be tamed after weakening them in combat. Successful recruitment allows players to name them, boosting growth rates, and summon them freely without consuming deployment slots. Named monsters also grant experience and occasional gifts to their summoners. Side content expands as more monsters join, unlocking dedicated stages where only tamed creatures fight.

Game Modes

The core experience centers on a main story campaign of 90 stages that advance the plot through character conversations. These stages mix kingdom and demon army perspectives as loyalties shift and new companions arrive. A separate set of 24 monster side-story stages becomes available progressively, restricting participation to recruited monsters and featuring bosses inspired by global myths. No other modes such as multiplayer or endless challenges exist; the focus remains on single-player progression through these two stage types.

Preparation between battles occurs in town shops that sell varied goods including healing ingredients, temporary buffs, and skewers that combine recovery with support effects. Ore collected from stages feeds a workshop for crafting new weapons and armor directly from raw materials rather than upgrading existing gear.

Story and Party Building

The plot follows two students pulled into conflict, with one eventually aligned against the other. Allies join gradually, each bringing distinct personalities and backstories that cross human-monster and kingdom-demon divides. Examples include a sharp-tongued maid, an oversized-voiced knight, a wind-reading mage, a trembling spear recruit, a truthful horned swordsman, and a hands-studying blacksmith. Party growth leads to multi-front battles as forces expand. Every fallen ally revives at stage end, though each return lowers merit and records on the status screen while improving future growth rates in most stats.

Merit tracks cumulative objectives and unlocks a visible reward ladder reaching legendary items at the highest totals. This system rewards consistent performance without functioning as spendable currency.

Is It Worth Playing?

Apocalypse Elysium suits players who enjoy deliberate, grid-based tactical RPGs with strong emphasis on positioning, durability management, and monster recruitment. The free demo covers five main-story chapters plus side stages and includes extensive tutorial support, providing a substantial preview of the full 90-plus-stage campaign. No player reviews or aggregate scores are available yet because the game remains in development with a coming-soon release. Those drawn to story-focused strategy experiences without permanent character loss will find the mechanics rewarding, while fans of faster-paced action or multiplayer content may prefer other titles. The single-player structure and detailed systems make it a strong choice for dedicated tactical RPG enthusiasts once the full version arrives.
