About After Troy

After Troy - about the game

After Troy is a deckbuilding roguelike RPG set in Greek myth just after the fall of Troy. Players select one of four heroes and enter a fresh map each run, with six rounds to explore, strengthen their position, and capture cities. The experience supports solo play or cooperative sessions with up to three others, either online or through hot-seat on a single PC.

Gameplay

Every action flows through the player's hand of cards. Cards handle movement across the map, payment for purchases, attacks against enemies, and defensive blocks. A Favour from Olympus can be spent to activate a card at full strength, while turning any card sideways provides one unit of Move, Coin, Attack, or Block when resources fall short. Exploration reveals shuffled map tiles that place camps, ruins, monster lairs, and walled cities in different locations each game. Defeating enemies grants experience points that unlock new skills at each level. The Market offers Feats and Spells to expand the deck, while ruins and chests yield Relics. Hiring Companions adds fighters who support the hero directly. Burning a temple grants a powerful Relic but invokes Zeus' Law as a penalty. Four gods track meters based on player actions: Hermes for exploration, Ares for combat, Hestia for hiring and trading, and Athena for playing cards at full power. Filling a meter allows spending it on that god's specific gift.

Game Modes

Core play revolves around conquest missions on procedurally generated maps. Solo conquest lets a single player tackle the full challenge, while co-op conquest supports teams of up to four. Shorter missions provide quicker sessions with focused objectives. Twelve Labours serve as escalating challenges unlocked by completing prior ones with each hero. Ironman mode restricts players to a single save with no reloading, feeding directly into separate Steam leaderboards. A Relaxed mode offers a less punishing alternative. Each week features one shared seed so all players tackle the identical map for direct comparison on leaderboards. Over seventy achievements track various accomplishments across runs.

Heroes and Progression

Four distinct heroes each tie to a patron god and bring unique strengths. Odysseus, favored by Athena, excels as a leader who builds power through Companions and followers. Medea, bound to Hades, maintains momentum even when injured after her decisive past actions. Atalanta, raised by a bear and blessed by Demeter, thrives in wilderness settings and can request a new Favour when Olympus delivers an unfavorable one. Aeneas, aligned with Poseidon, converts defensive actions into offensive opportunities. Each hero begins every run with the same starter deck and gains access to eleven personal skills over time. Nothing persists between runs, so success depends entirely on adapting to the current map and draws.

Is It Worth Playing?

After Troy delivers a pure roguelike structure where every session starts from the same baseline and the map, enemies, and opportunities shift completely. The card-driven system integrates movement, economy, and combat without separate resource pools, creating tight decisions each turn. Co-op options extend the experience to groups while bots fill empty seats, and the weekly seed plus leaderboards add a competitive layer for those who enjoy comparing runs. With the full set of four heroes, all missions, twelve Labours, and online co-op already available in the upcoming Early Access build, players seeking a challenging deckbuilder with mythological flavor and no grind-based progression will find a complete loop to test. Those who prefer permanent unlocks or lighter difficulty may want to observe early player feedback before committing.
