Despite its humble origins as an unpopular Pong Knock-Off for the Atari 2600, Bounce (1983) introduced a number of clever changes that elevated the 1v1 digital sport formula. Instead of controlling a paddle in only two directions, you controlled a character that could move anywhere on the court.
Bounce 2 aims to reimagine the timeless classic once again, taking it to new heights with its new dynamic physics based control system, playground of innovative game modes, and it's perfectly synchronized Bounce Online system.
Physics based interactions are the key to building dynamic and emergent gameplay. By giving the player full control of the characters limbs, using the right stick, Bounce 2 becomes the perfect playground. This marriage of physics and open ended player control just feels聽great to play.
The player is made up of 2 colliders, the body, and the limb. This simple 2 collider system ensures quick precise physics calculations while providing a responsive and robust control. Control the arm while on the ground, and swing the right thumbstick in the air to kick and control your leg.
BOUNCE MODE
Designed to test each players skill level, this mode is the true proving ground. In Bounce Mode, there is no numerical score. Instead, with each goal, the slider at the top of the screen in pushed toward the opposing side. This Tug of War style scoring means the more evenly the matched opponents, the longer the match.
BRICK MODE
Inspired by Brick Breaker, Brick Mode has each player breaking through a wall of bricks in order to score a goal. If the ball goes past your wall, and your opponent scores, your wall will be regenerated. Defend your聽 Each round lasts 2 and half minutes, so works well if you want a quick competitive round.
PARTY MODE
Inspired by mini-game centred titles like Mario Party and Wario Ware, Party Mode is a mixed bag of over 15 different modified rounds, randomly selected after each goal. Race your opponent down corridors in RUN, swim and dive in WATER mode, prove your skill in MULTI-BALL, or create your own custom mixture of your favourite modifiers in a custom playlist.
Bounce 2 uses Photon Quantum, a bleeding edge deterministic networking solution that delivers frame perfect gameplay across all player clients. Player input is sent to the server which calculates the Physics and Gameplay components. That data is then sent back to each client, which renders the visual components on the local hardware. All this technical nonsense results in an online system that feels fast paced and on par with the local experience. Every Jump, Kick, Dash, and Goal is perfectly synchronized, whether your playing a friend down the hall, or halfway around the world.
LEADERBOARDS
The Bounce 2 leaderboard is intentionally separated into an online webpage to keep the game interface clean and casual, while providing a universally accessible space for competitive players to show off their score.
Inspired by the graphics and limitations of Bounce (1983), and perfected by years of experience with analog monitors and television, Bounce 2 features a CRT TV shader like you've never seen.
The Shader is a combination of texture scanned directly from the JVC TM-P10SU (Professional video monitor from 1996) and post processing resulting in an accurate and uniquely beautiful image. Just like a real analog television, shift the brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation in the graphics settings to create a personalized experience. This simple addition is surprisingly fun.
Finally, a frame delay colour separation method adds an extra level of flavour that is a perfect match for the fast paced gameplay of Bounce 2. The faster the ball or player, the more exaggerated the effect.
Bounce 2 was designed with Analog equipment in mind. While any game is technically playable on CRT TVs, the fundamental differences of digital and analog signals creates a technical hurdle too high for most casual players.
By including a CRT Calibration setting, Bounce 2 allows users to pickup a cheap digital to analog adapter and fine tune their signal in game. Shift the position and scale of the signal until the Bounce arena lines up perfectly with your unique CRT.聽
