The Thameslink Programme, a phrase which is ingrained into the minds of every Southeast commuter, was the radical transformation of travel through the centre of London. The plan? Upgrade and expand the Thameslink network with better connections, as well as a brand-new fleet of rolling stock.

Developed from the existing Desiro UK family, and based on passenger feedback, the Class 700 was born. A revolution in every right, the new Desiro City family brought all-new efficiency, capacity, and frequency to Thameslink’s network. Capable of moving over 1000 passengers each, with a massively increased fleet, it was only natural to expand cross-London destinations.

In May 2018, the classic Southeastern London Charing Cross to Gillingham service was withdrawn and replaced with an all-new Luton to Rainham service, operated by Thameslink. Take on the role of driving the Class 700/0 between Dartford and Rainham, stick to the schedule and provide the bolstered capacity to Kent and Medway.
