Black Desert adds Songakshi Calamity 8-10 in July 9 update

Black Desert's endgame just got meaner, and if you main a Succession Warrior or an Awakening Ninja, you'll want to log in. Pearl Abyss pushed out the July 9 update for the NA and EU servers, a chunky 1.11 GB download that finally closes out a PvE balance pass the team has been chipping away at for weeks. The headline, though, is a boss making a nasty return.

Songakshi is back, and she brought new tricks

The Black Shrine - Donghae solo fight now has three new difficulty tiers: Calamity 8, 9 and 10. Songakshi returns in a stronger form with brand new mechanics, and Pearl Abyss is pitching the challenge as being in the same league as the recent Duoksini and Oduksini encounters. Translation: bring gear. Recommended AP sits between 365 for Calamity 8 and 385 for Calamity 10, so this is squarely endgame territory.

Clear it and the loot table is worth the bruises. We're talking Deboreka Earrings, Dahn's Gloves and a pile of crafting materials, the kind of drops that actually move your build forward instead of gathering dust in storage.

Class changes across the board

This is the patch that wraps up the current round of PvE tuning, and a lot of specs got touched. Warrior Succession gets smoother combos thanks to cooldown tweaks and a reworked Prime: Forward Slash. Valkyrie Succession picks up a tier bump on Sword of Judgment plus a chunky damage boost on her Awakening skills. Ninja Awakening, Striker Awakening and Corsair Succession all got love too, with Corsair leaning into extra HP recovery on non-Mareca skills.

Pearl Abyss says this is the end of the road for this balance round. More changes will come, but only after they watch how these land. Fair enough.

Bits and pieces worth knowing

Landscape Paint farmers, rejoice: drop rates jumped anywhere from 1.75x to 8.17x across a bunch of monster zones. Character notes now show up on the Exit Game and Character Selection screens, a small quality of life win. And if you slept on Olvia Academy Class 2, enrollment got pushed to July 23. Meanwhile the summer stuff is in full swing, with Heidel Ball 2026, the Heidel Festival Prelude and the Terrmian Beach grand opening all running.

So, are you diving back into the Black Shrine for those new Calamity tiers, or waiting to see how the class changes shake out first? Drop it in the comments.
