15 Best PS Plus Extra Games to Play in 2026

The PS Plus Extra catalog is looking meaner than ever this year. Spider-Man 2 landed in February, Red Dead Redemption 2 in May, Final Fantasy XVI in June. We've been on this subscription for years now, checking every month what's in and what's out. Here are the 15 games we'd install first in July 2026.

Let's be honest about one thing: this catalog rotates. Control left in May, the original Red Dead Redemption followed in June, and on July 21 the service waves goodbye to Risk of Rain 2 and Tropico 6, among others. So treat this list as a July 2026 snapshot, verified title by title. You'll find our picks below.

What is PS Plus Extra?

PS Plus Extra is the middle plan of PlayStation Plus. On top of the Essential perks (monthly games, online play) you get a catalog of hundreds of PS4 and PS5 games to download and play for as long as you keep the subscription. God of War Ragnarok

Santa Monica Studio, November 2022. A worthy ending to Kratos and Atreus' Norse saga, and 11 million copies sold in three months. Nine realms, spectacular boss fights and a story that can crack even the toughest players. In terms of sheer scale, this is still the peak of what we've seen on PS5.

Combat got deeper compared to the previous game. You flow between the Leviathan Axe, the Blades of Chaos and the Draupnir Spear, and each weapon changes the rhythm of a fight. There's also Valhalla, a meaty free story add-on released a year later. If you own a PS5 and Extra, you're officially out of excuses.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Insomniac Games, October 2023, in the catalog since February 2026. Two Spider-Men, a New York expanded with Brooklyn and Queens, and a symbiote that hands Peter some dark, brutal powers. The story keeps its pace from the first minute to the last.

Web-swinging is still the best traversal system in action games, and the new wings completely change the flow. Side missions finally match the main quest in quality. 15 to 20 hours of pure fun. Insomniac is simply a studio that doesn't know how to miss.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar Games, 2018, a 97 on Metacritic. It hit the catalog on May 19, 2026 and instantly became one of the biggest additions in the service's history. A month later the original left, so Take-Two clearly made room for the bigger brother. Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang deliver around 50 hours of the best western ever made in games.

The world here lives its own life. Camps, train robberies, hunting, chance encounters on the trail, it all locks together into something you can sink into for a whole season. The catalog version is the PS4 release, which runs without a hitch on PS5. If you've dodged RDR2 for eight years, there won't be a better moment.

The Last of Us Part I

Naughty Dog, September 2022. A ground-up PS5 remake of one of the most important games ever made. Joel and Ellie crossing post-apocalyptic America, a story that stays with you for years. The new facial animation makes every emotion land.

Played the original on PS3 or PS4? The remake still impresses. Never played it? This is the version to start with. And after season two of the HBO show plenty of people are going back to the source. Rightly so, the game is still the stronger experience.

Final Fantasy XVI

Square Enix, June 2023, in the catalog since June 2026. The most action-heavy Final Fantasy in the series' history and one of the prettiest too. Clive Rosfield crosses Valisthea, a land torn apart by a war over Crystals, and the giant Eikon battles look like the finale of a big-budget monster movie.

Combat was designed by Ryota Suzuki, the same man who worked on Devil May Cry 5, and you feel it in every encounter. Add one of the best soundtracks in recent memory. Around 35 hours for the main story. Turn-based purists may grumble, we had a blast.

Demon's Souls

Bluepoint Games, November 2020. A remake of FromSoftware's 2009 original and still one of the most beautiful launch titles in console history. Every corner of the kingdom of Boletaria has been polished to an absurd degree.

Played Dark Souls or Elden Ring? Here you'll see the roots of the whole genre. The difficulty is demanding but fair, and bosses like the Old Monk or Maiden Astraea are stories players still argue about today. Bluepoint makes remakes better than most studios make their own games.

Returnal

Housemarque, April 2021. A game that split the audience, but those who gave it a chance fell in love for good. Selene crashes on the planet Atropos and gets stuck in a time loop. Every death resets the world, and you come back stronger and smarter.

A third-person roguelike shooter, meaning every run starts fresh, with gunplay on par with the best action games out there. The DualSense work remains the gold standard, from the two-stage trigger to raindrops you can feel in your palms. The first hour can be brutal. Push through, it's worth it.

Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red, December 2020. Yes, we remember the disastrous console launch. Thing is, since the 2.0 update in 2023 this is a different game entirely, and today it's one of the best action RPGs on the market. Night City remains the densest, most atmospheric city we've ever seen in a game.

Rebuilt skill trees, police that actually work and combat that's finally fun. The PS5 version runs great, and the story of V and Johnny Silverhand (Keanu Reeves in one of his best roles) carries you for dozens of hours. One of gaming's great redemption arcs, and we're here for it.

Hogwarts Legacy

Avalanche Software, February 2023, the best-selling game of that year. Hogwarts in the late 1800s, an open world stuffed with secrets and broom flying that's way more fun than it has any right to be. You don't need to be a Harry Potter fan to lose a few dozen hours here.

Exploring the castle is pure gold. Moving staircases, hidden passages, potions and charms classes, everything looks exactly the way we pictured it reading the books. The plot won't blow you away, but the world more than makes up for it. A perfect game for evenings when you just want to wander.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Insomniac, June 2021. A PS5 muscle flex. The console's SSD throws you between dimensions in a split second with no loading screens, and the visuals look like a theatrical animated movie. The gameplay is pure, uncomplicated joy.

New heroine Rivet stole our hearts, and the arsenal is as inventive as ever, from the Topiary Sprinkler to the Negatron Collider. Around 12 hours of fun with zero filler. A perfect first game on the console, or a breather after some grim 80-hour RPG.

UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection

Naughty Dog, January 2022. Two games in one package: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and The Lost Legacy, both remastered for PS5. Nathan Drake retires in style, and Chloe Frazer proves the series can carry on without him.

This is the action-adventure genre in its purest, most cinematic form. Shootouts, puzzles, climbing and chase sequences Hollywood wouldn't be ashamed of. The convoy sequence in Uncharted 4 is still one of the greatest moments in PlayStation history. If you haven't played these, stop reading and start downloading.

Grand Theft Auto V

Rockstar Games, 2013, with the PS5 version from 2022. It's been sitting in the Extra catalog since November 2025, and there's no better time to catch up, because GTA VI arrives on November 19, 2026. Over a decade old, more than 200 million copies sold, and the missions still play brilliantly.

Trevor, Michael and Franklin are the best trio the series ever had, and the heists remain a masterclass in mission design. You also get GTA Online with its mountain of content. The perfect warm-up before the sixth one. We replayed the story in two weeks and it still delivers.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Insomniac, November 2020. Miles gets his own, shorter adventure in a snowy, holiday-season New York and absolutely owns it. Bioelectric powers and invisibility give his combat a distinct identity, and the story about growing up and responsibility is surprisingly mature.

A dozen or so hours you can comfortably finish in a weekend. The winter vibe works even in the middle of summer. If Spider-Man 2 left you hungry for more, this is the natural next stop.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Sumo Digital, November 2020. Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet set out on his own platforming adventure and absolutely nailed it. A colorful, joyful 3D platformer that works great solo and even better in co-op for up to four players.

Some levels are synced to licensed music, from Britney Spears to Bruno Mars, and those are moments of pure magic. The difficulty ramps up at a satisfying pace, and the completionist stages can genuinely bite. The most underrated platformer on PlayStation. Seriously.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Ubisoft Montreal, November 2020. Vikings in England and hundreds of hours of content. You build up the Ravensthorpe settlement, lead raids and get tangled in the political intrigues of medieval Britain. Into massive action RPGs? Valhalla is entertainment for an entire winter, even if it's July outside.

Combat is more brutal than in previous entries and fits the setting perfectly. Three big expansions add dozens more hours. Our advice: ration this one out, an hour or two a day, because the sheer size can overwhelm.

Extra or Premium, which one to pick?

Extra gives you the full PS4 and PS5 game catalog, and for most players that's plenty. Premium adds classics from PS1, PS2 and PSP plus cloud streaming. After the May price bump, Extra runs $16.99 a month, while the $134.99 annual plan stayed put, so it pays to choose consciously.

Not into retro? Stick with Extra, the content-to-price ratio is simply better. Premium makes sense if you love the classics or want to stream games without downloading. Our advice: start with Extra, you can always upgrade later.

Play them before the rotation strikes
