10 Best Games Like Little Nightmares III in 2026

For the first time ever, a Little Nightmares game wasn't made by the people who invented Little Nightmares. Supermassive Games, best known for Until Dawn, took the keys for Little Nightmares III on October 10, 2025, bolted on online co-op and handed solo players an AI partner. Opening day on Steam went about 52% positive across nearly two thousand reviews, a lukewarm welcome by this series' standards. I hit the credits still wanting more of that specific feeling: tiny protagonist, enormous world, every adult in it a threat. These ten deliver it, ranked from closest to the source outward. Updated August 2026.

REANIMAL

Over 24,000 people were on Steam at once shortly after REANIMAL launched on February 13, 2026, and honestly, no wonder. This is what Tarsier Studios built after handing the series over. A brother and sister search an island for their missing friends, the camera escapes the flat side-on plane into full 3D, and two people can play online or on one couch. That couch part matters, because Little Nightmares III never offered it.

Little Nightmares II

No co-op at all here, and it doesn't matter one bit. Little Nightmares II hands you Mono, a boy with a paper bag over his head, and lets Six tag along under AI control. What sticks afterwards is the Teacher with the stretching neck and the Hunter with the shotgun, the two best set pieces the series ever built. Tarsier Studios shipped it in 2021. Budget five hours, or eight to nine if you poke every crate.

Little Nightmares

Three and a half hours. That's the whole thing, roughly seven with the collectibles. Little Nightmares arrived in 2017 with Six in her yellow raincoat, stuck aboard a sunken vessel run by enormous chefs. The visuals show their age now. The rules absolutely don't: no weapons anywhere, only running, hiding, and a hunger meter that flares up at the worst moment available.

INSIDE

A boy runs through laboratories where human beings get handled like spare parts, and INSIDE tells you all of it without a single word of dialogue or text. Playdead made it, it lasts about four hours, closer to seven with the hidden rooms, and the shelf holds over a hundred awards including three BAFTAs and Best Independent Game at The Game Awards. Then there's the ending, which people have argued about for ten years because it refuses to explain itself.

LIMBO

You are supposed to die. That's the design. LIMBO builds every trap so death arrives first and comprehension second, which sounds cheap until you feel how precisely Playdead tuned the rhythm. It came out in 2010 in two shades of grey, runs three to four hours, and invented the small-child-in-a-cruel-world template this entire list borrows from. That first-chapter spider still does damage to people's sleep.

Somerville

Jumpship was co-founded by Dino Patti, the man who co-founded Playdead, together with film animator Chris Olsen, so the pedigree behind Somerville is about as direct as it gets. Aliens turn up over a suburban house, the family scatters within half a minute, and the rest is the slow work of finding them again. November 2022, three and a half hours, not a word spoken. The controls fight you and the scores reflected that, but nothing else films the apocalypse from the back garden this well.

Bramble: The Mountain King

Dimfrost Studio dug through actual Scandinavian folklore for Bramble: The Mountain King in 2023 and then declined to sand off any sharp edges. Little Olle goes after his kidnapped sister, and several of the trolls he meets will make you put the controller down for a second. Four to six hours. The audio work and the storytelling are the reason to play it, though the boss fights lean on one repeated pattern.

Planet of Lana

Everything else here wants you miserable. Planet of Lana wants you calm, and after a few of these that's genuinely useful. Wishfully painted the backdrops by hand and they look lifted from a Studio Ghibli film. Lana travels with Mui, a small cat-shaped companion who pulls enemies away and later hijacks machines. Five hours, and it has sat in the Xbox Game Pass subscription since launch day. The sequel, Planet of Lana II, landed on March 5, 2026 at 93% positive on Steam.

White Shadows

The movement floats exactly the way LIMBO's did, which is either nostalgic or annoying depending on your patience. White Shadows from Monokel is the shortest entry here at two to three hours, walking a crow-headed girl through a monochrome city of animals sorted strictly by caste. The imagery is striking. The political message arrives with the subtlety of a brick, which explains why opinions split so cleanly.

The Midnight Walk

It works flat on a normal screen and in a VR headset, and both are worth your time. The Midnight Walk came from MoonHood, the studio behind Lost in Random, on May 8, 2025, and every set in it was sculpted from real clay by hand before being scanned in, fingerprints included. You see it in first person, guided by a small living lantern named Potboy, for about five hours. Nothing else here looks remotely like it.
