God of War Laufey Launches February 16, 2027 on PS5

God of War Laufey finally has a date, and it is closer than most of us expected: February 16, 2027, PS5 only. Santa Monica Studio saved it for the end of its San Diego Comic-Con panel on Friday night, roughly seven weeks after the game showed up at all.

Quick refresher if you skipped the State of Play back on June 2. Laufey is the first God of War built around someone who is not Kratos. You play Faye, his wife and Atreus' mother, dead before the 2018 game even starts. She wakes up in the Everywhen, the afterlife where gods from every mythology ended up squabbling over what power is left, and the plans she quietly put in place to protect her family are already falling apart. Sekhmet and Begtse are among the ones standing in her way.

What came out of the panel

Game director Ariel Lawrence and head of creative Cory Barlog brought the cast on stage: Deborah Ann Woll as Faye, Christopher Judge as Kratos, Jack Quaid as Phranque (the talking gelatinous cube, still one of the odder sidekicks Sony has signed off on) and Perlina Lau as Rue. Woll said she had not touched a game in about ten years and sat through six hours of God of War 2018 after landing the part. Judge, naturally, brought it back to the big man: "Faye was the genesis of the change of Kratos."

Then Barlog dropped the real one. Another God of War is in development, Kratos leads it, and it connects directly to Laufey. No title, no window, no footage. Just confirmation that Faye's story is a setup and not a side trip.

February 2027 is stacking up fast

No price, no preorders, no fancy editions yet. Wishlist it on PS Store and wait. It does get a proper disc, which is worth noting now that Sony stops producing discs for new PlayStation games in January 2028.

The date itself is the spicy part. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis arrives February 12, Fable is aiming at the same month, and Sony has just parked its biggest exclusive right between them. Someone is going to move.

Our take: handing a brand new protagonist the busiest slot of early 2027 is a confident move, and Santa Monica has earned the right to be confident. February 16 is a Tuesday, so go check how much leave you have left.
