Lords of the Fallen 2 announced for 2026: everything we know

The 2023 Lords of the Fallen was a bit of a comeback story, a rough-but-ambitious soulslike that got meaningfully better after launch. Now the sequel is official and lined up for 2026, and CI Games is clearly betting big on it. Here is what we actually know so far.

Lords of the Fallen 2 is the follow-up to Hexworks' 2023 reboot, the dark-fantasy action-RPG built around the clever trick of two overlapping worlds, the living Axiom and the ghostly Umbral, that you flip between with a lantern. The first game sold well and grew a dedicated following once the patches smoothed out its rougher edges, so a sequel was always the plan rather than a surprise.

What we know about Lords of the Fallen 2

CI Games has confirmed the sequel is targeting a 2026 release and is being built on Unreal Engine 5, a jump from the first game's engine that should help with the visuals and, hopefully, the performance issues that dogged the 2023 launch. The studio has also signaled a bigger investment this time, which reads as a company that saw enough success with the first game to double down.

Details on story and setting are still thin, which is normal this far out, but the pitch is essentially more of what worked, refined. Expect the dual-world lantern mechanic to return as the series signature, alongside the deep build variety and interconnected level design that soulslike fans came for.

Why it matters

The soulslike space is crowded, but Lords of the Fallen carved out a real identity with its two-realms hook, and a sequel with a proper budget and an extra couple of years of lessons learned is exactly what the series needs to go from cult favorite to genuine heavyweight. If Hexworks nails the performance out of the gate this time, this could be a big one.

Not played the first one yet? It is a great way to prep for the sequel and see what the fuss is about before 2026 rolls around.
